What happend to Joseph after Jesus grew older?

He is there during Jesus’ childbirth

But i dont read about him after that event

Just wondering?

It’s a good question that I have pondered myself.

It is said that his wife remained a virgin for her whole life. Maybe he became displeased about that. I know I would be displeased if I married a woman that wouldn’t love me or allow me to love her, that’s not a healthy marriage especially given that the bible tells women to submit to their husbands.

Of course i don’t know for sure, it’s just a thought but I notice in a lot of early art of the nativity we see Joseph as being very depressed. Look at him in the bottom left hand corner, he looks like a very sad and lonely man, certainly not happy at all. I wonder what that guy is telling him. She’s having a child and he hasn’t even laid with her, poor Joseph must be a very frustrated and confused man.

The Gospel tells us that Joseph and Mary hunted for Jesus in Jerusalem when He was 12, and 13 was the age of manhood in Jewish culture then, so Joseph was around while Jesus was growing up.

On the other hand, the Catholic church venerates venerates Joseph to a high degree giving him various honorable titles like “Protector of Virgins” and “Terror of Demons” which is pretty cool. I’m no theologian but the honor of the position and the profound joy that would come from being in the presence of both Jesus and Mary for a large portion of your life seems well worth it.

I believe St. Joseph was much older than Mary. We don’t know when he died. It is not recorded in the Bible.

He is mentioned when a young Jesus (12 years old) was lost and found in the Temple (Luke 2:42). But, beyond this, we really don’t know.

Sacred tradition holds that St. Joseph died long before Jesus was crucifed. This means that he died before even Jesus’ first public miracle when Jesus was about 30, because he was not there. The last time he is mentioned in the bible or any historical record was when Jesus was 12. It is safe to assume that he passed away not long after.

I guess this is a weird question, but, did St. Joseph ever actually have intercourse with Mary? I ask, because, he seems like a pretty nice man. I mean, wouldn’t Joseph want that? Or was he ok with being purely platonic with Mary? I imagine they had no way of tracking a woman’s cycle back then to make sure Mary had a better chance of not getting pregnant?

But, I’ve never been in a long relationship with a woman, so I don’t really know what all of that entails.

Well in New Testament. St Paul does say it is better not to marry, but that marriage in love is a good thing. Interms of keeping our thoughts pure of the love of another.

Joseph might have been that for Mary

It is believed that Mary was a consecrated virgin. The Early Church Fathers, as well as most of the Protestant so-called “Reformers” also believed in Mary’s perpetual virginity.

St. Joseph was a very good man and he honored God and Mary’s obedience to God’s grace.

Are you saying that some people believe that she took a lifelong vow of virginity before marriage? I wouldn’t have married a woman who had taken a vow of virginity. If Mary supposedly took this vow before marrying Joseph, wouldn’t that contradict her marriage vows? If she supposedly took this vow after getting married, I hope she would have consulted Joseph. Didn’t St. Paul say that married couples should abstain from sex only by mutual agreement and for a limited time?

I have read of an idea that once Mary had become pregnant by the Holy Spirit, Joseph felt a reverent fear of having sex with her himself. But how could anyone prove what Joseph felt since it wasn’t written down?

Still, these ideas—Mary’s supposed vow, Joseph’s alleged fear—are not supported by the Bible, so I consider them just people’s ideas of what might have been going on. Do the people who believe in Mary’s vow of virginity have any evidence for it?

The likelihood is that as Jesus hit 30 his family failed.

A wondering man looking for answers was created into a myth.

The only myth is Atheism’s belief that self authority and worship of this world of materialism, is somehow better than Loyalty and Faith into God of Abraham? In this case Christianity view on grace. Over self embodiment.

In terms of right wing Christians, is not it sad that we are not promoting Jesus calling for low wealth and high helping the needy

I agree with you Kevin. There’s a reason why Jesus went into the temple and started flipping tables. And, I personally don’t think it’s just because you shouldn’t be selling products inside a place of worship. I think it goes much deeper than that, I think Jesus was trying to make a point, which is, any place of worship should never become a business. That religion was to be strictly for worship and was to never become a business. There’s a reason why Jesus never said you have to be part of a religion to be saved, and I think it was because even Jesus knew that religion can become corrupt. I mean the man was constantly at odds with the religion at the time, so it just makes sense.

That’s another thing Kevin….have you noticed that whenever food is near expiration, or whenever a product doesn’t sell very well, have you ever noticed that we throw that food out? Isn’t that funny? We have all of these buildings filled with food and yet, all we’re doing is wasting food. It would take nothing for someone to go out to someone who’s living on the streets and tell them “This food is close to expiration, but you can have it if you want.” And, I know those people on the street would be so happy that they could live another day. I mean…who are the people who run these grocery stores? We could enrich so many lives. I get it, not everyone can afford to get someone off the street and get them working a job and being self-sufficient, but think of the lives we could possibly change?

It’s a part of this simulation, I’m telling ya…

Food is one of many issues of the worship of wealth. That is why one of my campaigns is to get the negative attention to wealth and Jesus. There is not a day that the media does not frame most stories in terms of wealth. I remember seeing the people going thru the Kroger trash for food. The next step was for Kroger’s to close the trash and compress it. We need to be working on one planet one people not worship the wealthy and powerful. “ where wealth and power are equated to the grace of God”

Yes, this is what I am saying.

Not if God asked you to in a dream?

They were in a legal Jewish betrothal and Joseph was going to secretly divorce her, until an angel intervened.

Joseph was believed to be much older than Mary.

Yes, St. Paul did say these words in 1 Corinthians 7:5, after being asked "Is it a good thing for a man not to touch a woman?” He answers, “In cases of immorality every man should have his own wife, and every woman her own husband,” but Paul, himself, did not have a wife of his own. Notice in verse 6, Paul writes, “This I say by way of concession, however, not as a command.”

When it comes to St. Joseph, I do not believe God would have chosen a man who had little-to-no self-control. He lived up to his duty, by grace, to God, to Mary, and to Jesus.

This makes sense, especially after what they/we know about the Ark of the Old Covenant and those who would enter the Holy of Holies, I too would be cautious in regards to the Ark of the New Covenant.

The Protoevangelium of James (a non-Canonical text written around 140 A.D.) mentions Mary as a consecrated virgin dedicated to God. It also describes St. Joseph as being more of a protector. It also describes Joseph as being an elderly widower with children. In chapter 9 it says, when Joseph was told he was chosen by God to take Mary as his betrothed, he first refused, “I have children, and I am an old man, and she is a young girl.”

In addition to this, many Early Church Fathers mention Mary’s perpetual virginity. Check out St. Jerome’s Against Helvidius (383 A.D.) and St. Ambrose’s De Virginibus (377 A.D.). Good Lenten reading : )

I mean, don’t get me wrong, if someone wants to go to college and improve their life, more power to them (even though nowadays that’s a scam lol). And, I would love to see wealth and power being equated, but I don’t really know how you would go about doing it. I’m telling you right now, I’m against socialism. That might be a hot take, but, that’s literally distributing wealth equally, meaning even if you work more hours or work harder, there’s not really any incentive cause you’re still going to get paid the same wages everyone else does. All I was simply getting at was, there are certain things we, as a society, can do to help those who don’t have a lot. I mean, if a shirt isn’t selling well at a clothing store, donate it to Goodwill, or give it to someone who needs a shirt. It doesn’t matter if it looks ugly or not, a piece of clothing is a piece of clothing. I don’t think anyone who is homeless is going to care what a shirt looks like, the fact of the matter is the shirt was free and you’re helping someone out.

In order for wealth and power to be equal on this planet, you would have to make everyone wealthy. Now, there’s an event that is supposed to happen that will make everyone very wealthy due to our birth certificates being traded on the Stock Market. We’re supposed to get all of that money back, and because reincarnation is real, you’ll get all the money you are owed from not just this life but in past lives too. In other words, most people will be paid handsomely, and they will be paid a certain amount every month too. But, when this will happen? I can’t say, cause I really do not know the date, and I’m bad with dates. So that’s how people will be pretty well off. But what is supposed to happen is everyone will get paid back the amount they were traded in the Stock Market, and there’s going to be more of a focus on humanitarian efforts and getting paid for that. So basically, so many people will be well off, that they can focus for once on what it is they want to do. So yes, that degree that you got from college won’t be worth anything anymore, because now everyone will have the opportunity to get paid to do something they want to do while contributing to the well-being of society. But, we have a while till that happens. There are certain other events that need to take place before that one, but when it’ll happen is the kicker. I’m 36 years old, so I may/may not see it during this life. I might see it in the next. It just depends really.

But, if you can come up with something that doesn’t require society to turn to socialism, I’m all for it.

“ The dummies guide to Christianity “ infers that since Jesus never owned anything in his second life, he was a socialist.
I tend to agree,
Recall socialism is only the common owning of essential services
“ It’s bewildering that in a world of FINITE resources, we’ve built an economy on INFINITE growth “

Well, we live in a society that says “Whomever has the gold makes the rules.” Well…that’s putting a LOT of power in 1 person’s hands. Cause if you think about it, if you make a bunch of money, you’re pretty powerful and influential. This is kind of how corruption was born, because the people at the very tip top (or these families that has run the show on Earth for centuries, even milleniums), since they don’t have to answer to anyone and since they’re extremely wealthy, it would take nothing for one of these families to give someone like….a couple billion dollars to make sure a certain event never happens. Or, if there’s a piece of information they don’t want reaching out to the public, another couple billion dollars and you won’t ever see that information go public. These families created this system that makes the individual think that they’re free, but they’re only giving us enough freedom to buy into their half-truthed society. And they’ve done this for a really long time cause it’s a tried and true formula. It’s very simple, they give you certain benefits and make you think you are as free as a bird, by selling you a half-truth (because in order for them to get you to buy into a partial lie, you have to put in a bit of truth get someone to fall for it). So they’ll use Legalese as their language to get things moving. And, of course, in Legalese, there’s all sorts of double meanings and really complex wording. They made that language on purpose to put in the fine print, because the goal was to make the wording so complex and so boring that even if a person was to read it, it would still be somewhat confusing on what you’re agreeing to, to where if you really wanted to innerstand what you’re getting into, you’d get a lawyer to do that, which costs money, and most people nowadays can’t really afford a lawyer. Shoot I’m lucky sometimes if I can make certain payments on time. But, it’s all in an attempt to get them to basically get away with certain things. What it is, is these families have so much power that they get to decide what the public knows and what they don’t know, and have the money to pretty much get away with it. Cause again, no one is higher than these 7 families who run the world. They don’t have to answer to anyone, so they can get away with all sorts of terrible things, and they have and they’ve been following this playbook for centuries.

As far as socialism goes, well, I’m against it only because I do like the free market and capitalism. But, like I said that event is supposed to happen that’ll basically make everyone well off by default. But, because I wasn’t given any dates, I dunno when it’ll happen, but it’s gonna be the biggest distribution of wealth the world has ever seen, but it’s supposed to be that way so that people can do more humanitarian stuff to make our world better instead of make it worse.

So good luck, but I’ll never agree to socialism.
