Wow Glynn, you know Glynn said something very profound just now. To listen with “open ears and open mind.”
I remember being told something very important, which is, to have an open mind. Here’s why:
Open-minded people are people who are constantly thirsting for knowledge. There is no end to their thirst to know something.
Closed-minded people thirst for knowledge, but only up to a certain point, afterwards they’re full and don’t want to learn anymore.
And if you still don’t quite innerstand what I mean, lemme give you an example. Let’s say you have a blue cube, and it’s literally the color blue all-around. And you were given a sheet of paper that asks a simple question “Is the color of the cube completely blue?” And the way this experiment is carried out is, one at a time, a person goes into a room with the cube in front of them. The only instructions the person was given was to answer the question on their piece of paper, which again asks “Is the color of the cube completely blue?”
Those who went inside the room and looked at the cube answered “Yes the cube is blue.” And exited the room. But those with an open mind, were a bit creative. They actually went up to the cube and picked it up, and those that picked it up saw that there was a black mark on the bottom of the cube. So, they put on their pieces of paper that there was a black mark on the bottom of the cube.
This is a perfect example of what a closed-mind looks like vs. an open mind. Closed-minded people mostly just accept what is shown to them without questioning it. Open-minded people however, look at everything from all sorts of different angles.
We live in a Universe full of possibilities. And in a world where everyone has Free Will, nothing is completely off the table. It’s important to keep an open-mind instead of just accepting things as they are, cause everything isn’t always what it seems.
Well, when electronic things come with tiny pictures that have no labels, leaving us to try to figure out what they mean, it gets hard. Also light gray words on white backgrounds, or things made of black plastic that have black buttons and tiny black words if they have any words at all. Sometimes I say (joking), “Whoever designed this is going to spend a long time in Purgatory.” My wife and I are both in our 70s, and our eyesight and brains have declined a little.
But it’s not always our fault. For example, our township instituted a 1% earned income tax, that must be paid through a third party. I had about $400 in book royalties and therefore owed about $4 in taxes. The third party’s computer couldn’t match my name and Social Security number (and I’ve had the same name and number for more than 60 years), and I spent half an hour on the phone with the company, which couldn’t solve its problem. I mailed a check to the township; it was rejected and I was told to use the third party. After a few weeks that company was able to accept my payment, but I was charged interest and a penalty (two cents!) for paying late.
When I wanted to renew our renters’ insurance last month, the insurance company computer said it couldn’t find our policy. The website said I could call for assistance, but a computer answered the phone, and we couldn’t understand each other. I tried “chat,” but it was another (or the same) computer. When I asked how we could renew our policy when the computer can’t find it, the chat computer said, “That’s a good question.” When I said we need to renew the policy because it will expire while we are out of the country, it said, “I don’t understand.” I went to a local insurance agent and was helped by a real person.
We used to have an online savings account with a big bank, and one day it told us that our phone numbers (which we had had for years) were invalid. Presently it told us that our Zip code was not good (even though thousands of people live in that Zip code). I said to my wife, “We’d better get our money out of that bank,” and we did.
I’m not saying that Catholic Talk is like that. Here you can get a real person to help when you need it. It just felt good to complain about those other experiences.
I love when you get an AI and he or she starts out by saying, I am learning but will love to help you. Went to Taco Belle and the AI help me. I ordered 2 tacos, and AI took it for 10 tacos. I guess AI has a learning curve. Glynn
