Do you think its done in positive light or negative one?
I do feel there is more comfort in Secular Hollywood atleast to do Christian bashing, since it is the only safe religion to go after.
Japan however, i think plays more into the “Shintoism” belief in good gods vs evil gods (Spirits, kamis) so they view religion in a more nuanced way from what i can tell. Although most of Japanese are atheists. Generally speaking very interesting culture for sure
I’m from the US, so the US is what I know. From what I’ve seen in music and Hollywood, Christianity is frequently mocked. Whether it be making a horror movie about Jesus himself (The Carpenter’s Son, starring Nicholas Cage that released on November 14th, 2025), or making a music video where you are sliding down a stripper pole from “Heaven” to “Hell” to seduce the Devil (Lil Nas, Call Me By Your Name, released in 2021), our faith is frequently mocked and blasphemed. For the the most part, I would say that the Protestant interpretation of faith is mocked more than others (probably because it is simpler in many ways), but that doesn’t mean that Catholicism hasn’t been mocked in the media either. In April of 2025, Apple TV released a show titled “Your Friends and Neighbors”. In the sixth episode, two adults (one male and one female) break into a church and steal the consecrated host before they sit in the pew and eat it with jelly, like it’s a light snack. These are just some examples of how American media mocks Jesus. We cannot forget though, that this happens everywhere. Do we need to remember the 2024 Paris Olympics?
Jesus, however, knew this would happen. Jesus says, in Matthew 5: 11-12, “God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers.”
We must hold steadfast to our beliefs and not give into the pressures of society to deny Jesus and his teachings. Pray for strength and a steady heart.

I agree. We do not have an equivalent of antisemitism nor do we justify killing someone for simply mocking our prophet like some within Islam do.
So, therefore, victimhood consciousness is less common within Christianity and Jesus taught us to “turn the other cheek,” “vengeance is [God’s],” and “Pray for those who persecute you, for they hated [Jesus] first.” And we know that when the Church defended herself, she is criticized for doing so (The Crusades come to mind, but I will leave this up to the historians to debate).
Only like 2.5% of Japan is Christian. Though we do have great witnesses from Japan, some of whom will one day be declaimed Saints (Takashi Nagai, Elizabeth Kitahara, Justo Takayama Ukon, and Moriyama Nagai).
St. Maximilian Kolbe lived and worked in Japan for a few years!
And there is the Tomb of the 26 Martyrs. So, in a way wo do have a little bit of that victimhood consciousness ; )
