I recently listened to an interview with Mel Gibson and he talked about how he, his brother-in-law, and Randall Wallace have been working on the script to the sequel of The Passion of Jesus The Christ.
The Resurrection of Jesus The Christ plans to tie in everything from the Fall of the Angels to Jesus visiting Sheol after His death. How he is going to pull this off without making it look cheesy or like a Marvel Movie (neither of which he desires), will be a challenge, but a challenge that Mel Gibson is willing to take on.
I am more excited that it is going to depict how the Apostles died, which will be brutal, but powerful.
During this interview Mel references how inspiring the opening shot of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator is (I’ll have to go back and watch it). Which brings me to an interview that I listened to with actor Russell Crowe, who starred in Gladiator. In both his interview and Mel Gibson’s interview, they both talked about their young girlfriends! Both of these talented men have abandoned their families in their older ages for younger women. They both talked about how athletic their girlfriends are. One plays Tennis and the other a purple belt (which is one step below a black belt) in Karate. I can’t help, but be saddened this. Both of these men admit their flaws and perhaps their Wives had had enough of them, but it is still weird to hear men in their 60’s talking about their 30 year old girlfriends. I find it sad, while others might say, “good for them” or “boys will be boys.”
But, I am excited about the sequel to “The Passion." Jim Caviezel will be playing the roll of Jesus in “The Resurrection.” Caviezel is Married to his Wife and they have three adopted children from China with health challenges. He has also said that he does not do explicate scenes (which is probably why he has a healthy relationship with his Wife and does not have a girlfriend half his age ; )
Have you seen The Passion of The Christ? I saw it in the theater back when I was in College and it was amazing. Yes, it is brutal. And yes, I cried. As the credits rolled, no one said a word. There was a sort of somber reverence throughout the theatre. It really is such a powerful movie if you have not seen it. And the conversions that took place on the set are also very moving. I have a book written by Fr. John Bartunek, who was on the set, titled, “Inside The Passion of the Christ,” where he dives deeper into various scenes depicted in the film.
