Is Receiving the Holy Eucharist Cannibalism?

  • Yes, which is why I prefer symbolically partaking in cannibalism (in my Protestant Church)
  • Yes, which is why I prefer to receive Jesus’ body and blood (I’m a sick man)
  • No, it is not cannibalism

Some are described of mistaking the Eucharist for cannibalism in the ā€œBread of Lifeā€ discourse (John Chapter 6).

ā€œHow can this man give us his flesh to eat?ā€ (verse 52). And some of them turn and walked away (verse 66).

Jesus replied in verse 58, "This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.ā€

The food which the ancestors ate was of material substance, but the bread which Christ gives, which is ā€œtrue foodā€ and ā€œtrue drinkā€ is of spiritual substance.

It is not like Jesus is giving you his arm to eat and me his leg to eat. When we receive the Sacrificial Lamb (Jesus), we are receiving all of Him (body, blood, soul, and divinity — all that Life is made up of).

But, wait. If one were to eat nothing, but the Eucharist, would not he still die? Yes, and that is Jesus’ point. Their ancestors ate bread and died. The substance of the Holy Eucharist is not bread and wine, but the substance of Christ (The Sacrifice, His Soul, His Love, and His Divinity).

When we receive the body and blood of Christ our bodies are digesting the physical properties of bread and wine, but our souls are receiving the substance of Christ.

ā€œAmen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drinkā€ (verse 53-55).

ā€œJesus then said to the Twelve, ā€˜Do you also want to leave?ā€™ā€ (verse 67).

Peace to all,

We through the flesh completely consume the New Living Sacrifice, completely disposed of, The Body, Blood and Soul and Divinity of God becoming again in all One Family, I believe, OMNILogically.

Animal Sacrifice saved only the spirits in the souls ot the Boson of Abraham, the New Living Sacrifice, through Penace through The Host forgives, glorifies and transfigures Baptized transformed becoming through both natures, Spirit and life in One Body through the Christ becoming again in all through both natures One Holy Spirit Family One God in being, i believe.

Peace always,
Stephen

Father David Michael Moses, singing and praying at our parish a while back, pointed out that God commanded the Israelites to eat the paschal lamb. This is continued in Jesus’ commandment to eat his body, but the Israelites were eating actual lamb meat, whereas we consume what to all appearances is bread, but Jesus said that it is His body.

Peace to all,

Through Powers of The Logical ā€œMind of Godā€ preexisting from the Holy Family One God in being is The New Condensed version OMNILogical Bible, I believe, in generalization, with respect to the logical formulas from the Wondrous Mysteries of The Faith becoming again in all One Family, I believe.

Jesus is the ā€œChosenā€ New Living Sacrifice that saves the failed One Nature Sacrifice of Animals from the Two Nature God from the Faith of Abraham. Picked to carry the ā€œChosen Sacrificeā€ to Jerusalem were the ā€œPicked to carry the Chosen Sacrificeā€ Hebrews out of Egypt carrying the Ark of the Covenant through the first Exodus to Jerusalem, to The Tomb of Jerusalem, I believe.

The Christ, is logically the Holy Family and ā€œSophiaā€ Entire Wisdom of the Holy Family conceived through The Flesh of Jesus becoming all mankinds’ and angels’, all creations’, 's, apostrophe s apostrophe, Personal Christ becoming again in all One Family, I believe.

apostrophe" ( ā€˜s s’ ) lies in their usage with singular and plural nouns to indicate possession.

We know one cannot hide from the salvation failed chosen? from The Fig leaf, and the Host becomes the ā€œNew Fruit.ā€

The Host transforms immortally and glorifies and incorruptibly transfigures by contact of all or even any of the senses through two natures becoming again in all One God, I believe.

Logically, the Wisdom of the Entire Holy Family is ā€œThe Mind of Godā€ and is the Conception through Jesus becoming Our Own Personal Christ living inside of us is the Holy Family, and rationally and to me, is what would Jesus do and does in all cases of the fulfilled faith and morality through the Christ in all becoming again One Family?

To me this becomes the manifestation of Our Spirit Father through both natures, spirit and life becoming again, undefiled and infallible in all who believe, I believe.

For all creation from God The Father, Adam and Eve’s spirit and life Baptized transformation is through the New Eve in immaculate flesh immortality becoming Holy Spirit Incorruption from Sacrifice through Penance forgiven in all mankind for Jesus in the New Adam becoming in all through the Two Nature Body of Christ, spirit and life from One Body through all One Body in all becoming again glorified and transfigured in all One Holy Spirit Family One God in being, OMNILogically, I believe.

Jesus did not give his flesh and blood for his disciples to eat. Jesus was given a meal - the last supper. He broke bread and distributed it to his disciples, saying, ā€œtake and eat. This is my body.ā€ The idea is that when we offer food to the Lord or his true representative, that food becomes surcharged with spiritual power. It becomes equal in quality with the Lord Himself. I have read that when the Jews were making sacrifices to God, the remnants of such sacrifices were taken only by the rabbis, as sacred remnants. By consuming the remnants of sacrifice, in a respectful spirit, one’s heart and soul becomes spiritually purified, so that one can begin to sense the presence of God within one’s life.

Jesus was teaching this principle at the last supper. This means that one should not be content simply to receive the holy wafer in church. Rather, everything we cook and prepare for consumption should be placed on a nice tray and placed before Jesus on an altar in our home. In this way everything that we eat is the body of Jesus.

Eating the flesh of animals and of man is the the same. It is eating a corpse. This is disgusting. Without frying or roasting with fats and spices, no one would enjoy putting such foul material into their mouths. It is nothing but a corpse. And if left on the kitchen counter, it immediately beings to rot. And this is what people put into their bodies as food.

Aside from the cruelty, animal flesh is carcinogenic, and the high fat content of meats places America as number 1 for the most deaths from heart attacks in the entire world.

People weep when their dogs and cats die. There is no difference between their pets and the animals that people eat, in terms of these creatures capacity to feel bodily pain.

People think eating animal flesh is very nice. They aren’t aware that the businesses that produce meat also run the government that controls the education systems that tells everyone they have to eat meat to be healthy.

I’m 81. I do a half dozen chin-ups and 25 push-ups every morning, and spilt my own firewood by hand. I don’t take any medicines because I don’t need any. I’m healthy because I I don’t eat animals, fowl, and things of that nature.

I am not this body. I am spirit soul, inside a temporary body that will compost back into earth. Without the presence of spirit soul within a body, the body shows no symptoms of life, simply because matter cannot be alive. Take a handful of earth and try to create life. It is impossible.

The same applies to animals, chickens and turkeys. Within every body is a spirit, be it a human body or an animal. People who want to eat meat should keep the bodies of family members that pass away, put them in their freezers, and enjoy them.

I have read that there were communities of Christians shortly after the time of Jesus, that were pure vegetarian. Eating dead bodies is such a gross practice. We are not lions, wolves and dogs. We are human beings.

He was celebrating Passover. And it was not finished until he drank from the fourth cup while on the Cross. Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Covenant Sacrifice.

Jews no longer offer animal sacrifices since the destruction of the Temple. But Jesus is the Temple that has been raised up in three days and He continues to offer this once and for all sacrifice to God, The Sacrifice of the New Covenant. Jesus is our High Priest and the Sacrificial Lamb. Jesus offers Himself to the Father on our behalf. And in our partaking of this gift, we too may become Eucharist for others. Eucharist literally means ā€œthanksgiving.ā€

If you read ā€œThe Didacheā€ (which was written ether in the later first century or early second century) the author was addressing a problem in one of the Apostolic Churches. They were merging the Eucharist with meal of fellowship and the author stresses the importance of not confusing the two.

There is a problem with your conclusion. Jesus ate fish. And when the the prodigal son returned home, the father slaughtered a fattened calf to celebrate. He didn’t fry up some brussels sprouts ; )

The Bible does not forbid veganism nor does it forbit the eating of animals (other than certain types of animals under the Mosaic Law. My Sister is a vegan and she has made veganism her religion (her salvation, which is a form of idolatry). She is only thinking about the material life. She fears death and disease (as many of us do), but her faith is not in God, but in diet. I’m not saying that we should not eat more healthy and exercise, but what I am saying is that God is above all fears.

I am not convinced that Jesus ate fish. Perhaps the Bible says so. But scriptures are always edited according to the decisions of people in power. I just know that animals and fish and fowl all have feelings, feel pain…..even respond to feelings of love. So for me, it goes against everything I understand about the unbounded love that Jesus has for all of us. Surely he would not wish to kill any creature. I am, like your sister, a vegan. But that is not my religion. It is just my affection for other forms of life. Just like people love their cats and dogs. I don’t have one. But I wouldn’t cut the neck of a dog just to satisfy my tongue. I know that in today’s world, people don’t kill the animals that they eat. They just go to the store and buy some meat nicely packaged, all looking very cheerful. But could you actually look a horse or a cow in the eye, while cutting its throat, and saying, ā€œThank you very much. I’m really going to enjoy eating you?ā€ That strikes me as heartless. You are correct in saying diet won’t save anyone from death. I do believe it is more healthy to be vegetarian. But it won’t save anyone from death. You are right. But when people stop killing and eating animals, this brings about a change in the heart that make us more able to feel God’s presence. That is the utility of asceticism. It cleanses the heart. John the Baptiste was an ascetic. Jesus also did austerities before beginning to preach. Saint Francis was very austere. Why? Because it enables one to open his heart so that he can begin to feel God’s presence and His love. I believe in my heart that anyone who really feels God’s love, could not bring himself to kill any form of life……..simply out of kindness, compassion and love. But I do not wish to disturb your mind. Please forgive me.

I admit, Cade, that you know more of scripture than I do. Therefore I cannot disagree with you on the grounds of scripture. I am simply convinced within my heart, that killing innocent creatures is a terrible way to live. But if you are following Jesus as he is presented to us in scripture, I have to respect that. But the scriptures that I aspire to follow state that as long as we operate slaughter houses when there is no need for such things, there will be wars, there will be plagues, there will be earthquakes and tidal waves. This is ā€œsewing and reapingā€. But I cannot say you are wrong for wishing to follow Jesus. I think of Jesus as holding the lamb to his heart, with feelings of love. But I cannot challenge your stand on the basis of scripture.

@Peter1 I respect your conviction and your charity. And I agree that many slaughter houses are unethical and go way too far for the sake of profits. Will we be held accountable for these actions? It’s possible and something for Christians to at least ponder.

I have read some of your posts, and I know that you have strong Catholic values, which I respect very much. I was fearful that I would alienate some of you with my views. In my religion, we say, ā€œPlease accept my humble obeisances.ā€ , which means, ā€œPlease allow me to bow before you, as I recognize you as a soul devoted to God.ā€ Therefore I say thank you Cade for your open heart. Please accept my humble obeisances. Peter

Not in so many words but that is what the Indigenous to North America did. They thanked the bison, the deer, as well as the plants. I appreciate their approach to the use of their resources. It’s thoughtful, thankful, and beneficial.

I do hear what you are saying, Reed, and I have heard this before. I believe they really did respect the creatures they killed for food. However, I am 81 years old, haven’t eaten an animal, fish or fowl in 55 years. I live on the land, inside the national forest, grow vegetables, cut my own firewood, etc. and take no pills, no meds. America is the unhealthiest country in the world. The leading cause of death is heart attacks. There are places on the planet where no one has heard of heart attacks. It’s all about what we eat, packaged processed food filled with preservatives, etc. and meats which are understood to be carcinogenic. But we were talking about love and compassion. I we love each other, we don’t thank each other after eating each other. We want each other to be happy, to enjoy being alive. I am not in a position to tell anyone how to live their lives. I’m just sharing my thoughts and feelings. If a mouse gets into the house, I catch him in a live trap and let him go outside. They have feelings, fear, hunger, thirst. They respond to love, just like dogs and cats. Same with bugs, spiders. I can’t kill them. All sentient beings. All God’s children, just like you and me. They just don’t have the same software we do. In spite of the fact that I have a somewhat fiery nature, I find that the kinder I am to people and God’s creatures, the closer I feel to God, and more I can feel His love for me. That’s what I really want to say.

Well @Cade_One, I think you already know my answer, but I’ll give you my answer.

First of all, I don’t go by The Bible, at least not the current translation. We have to remember that The Bible was written by men. It has 40 authors, and we have a total of 66 books. I’m sorry, but I refuse to believe a book, written by 40 different people, that all of those people have good will. It’s no different than saying ā€œYou can trust every salesman out there, cause they only have your best interests at heart.ā€ Yeah, and I’m Amy Poehler’s husband (although that’d be kind of cool). I follow certain things like the 10 Commandments, and I try to be good. I have no desire to be perfect, I think trying to be something you’re not is wasting your precious time here on this planet. This is who I am, this is what I stand for. If someone has a problem with that, I am more than willing to start a dialogue with you without resorting to name calling or insults. If anything, I can agree to disagree. You can throw Biblical quotes at me all day long, but the truth of the matter is, The Bible was written by men for mankind. I’m not going to sit here and blindly believe that 40 authors have my best interests at heart. I have a hard enough time believing that every single person who wrote The Bible were inspired by God. Maybe 2 or 3 people would be more believable but 40 people? I don’t buy it, not even for a second. I know back then things were different, but it’s not beyond belief that there were a few bad eggs back then. I mean, just by looking at the different Popes, Cardinals, Bishops, and Priests and how some of them were not very good, it should come as no surprise that even back in Jesus’s time there were a few people with ulterior motives.

But, let’s just suspend for a brief second my doubts, and let’s say that Jesus actually said such a thing. Something doesn’t bode well with me about what Jesus says. And really, when I read this, something’s off. So, when I read this, it could be one of 3 things. Either the translation is really really bad, or he actually did say this but it was code for something, or he never said this at all and it was added.

My innerstanding of The Bible (after reading not just the current Bible, but the books of the Bible that were taken out), Jesus spoke in parables (I call it code), because Jesus knew that he was being followed by the religious hierarchy at the time. So he would teach in parables, which had hidden meanings for any crowd he was preaching to at the time. But, for those who were close to him, like his apostles and Mary Magdalena, he revealed certain secrets about this reality, secrets that only those closest to him knew. Mary Magdalena knew the most, including the keys to exiting this Matrix.

So, either Jesus actually said this, and there’s a deeper meaning behind what it is he said.

Or

He said something that later on was retranslated so much that the original meaning and maybe even the original words he said were changed and that part of Sacred Scripture was corrupted.

Or

He didn’t actually say this and we’re taking maybe what he said out of context (like a game of telephone in a sense).

I, personally, think that Jesus didn’t say it, but somewhere along the line, orally, the original concept was corrupted (or changed on purpose) and someone with an ulterior motive thought this should be put in The Bible for reasons we will never be told.

I research The Bible a lot (because again, I’m trying to figure out what is real and what isn’t). And the more that I read not just the books in the current Bible, but the books that have also been taken out, I’m convinced that The Bible is not supposed to read like a fairytale. I’m actually convinced that The Bible is supposed to make sense. Yes, there are occasional things that seem fairytale-ish, but even certain things that seem like fairytales can actually be explained in a logical and consistent manner, to the point where if put in certain contexts, actually does make sense. Even certain stories, like Noah’s Ark, is actually supposed to make sense. Many Atheists use this story as an example that it reads like a fairytale, and If I’m being real, yeah, it honestly reads like a fairytale. I mean, logically it makes no sense. You have both male and female animals on board of this Ark, along with Noah’s family. How do you prepare for something like that? Cause some animals on this planet are massive! Like elephants and giraffes. You would have to have a very sturdy Ark that can hold an enormous amount of weight that has plenty of room so the animals can be comfortable and move around. You’d have to have cages for some of these animals, like lions, cause you don’t want Noah’s family to get eaten since they’re gonna be the ones populating the Earth after the flood. I mean…it defies logic. But when you decode The Bible, you find out that trying to innerstand the story of Noah’s Ark is actually really easy and simple if you know or find out more about what it is you’re reading. Noah’s Ark was supposed to make sense, it wasn’t supposed to be made into some tall tale, but because these evil filthy rich people in power don’t want you to know the truth, they literally spin stories in The Bible to, once again, get their messed up agenda across.

The main thing is, trust no one. Whether people want to admit it or not, everything has been messed with, tainted, and ruined. Every organization, to some degree, is corrupt. Yes, there are varying degrees of corruption, but for the most part, everything has been corrupted. Even the shoes we all wear has been messed with! I mean, there’s nothing in this world that these 7 families haven’t messed with. We are literally cattle in a Matrix that is designed for the downfall of the individual. Everything around us caters to our ego, and therefore, people will always default to ego. I have no problem admitting that that is something I struggle with as well, is ego. The challenge is to dissolve your ego and allow someone else’s worldview as your own. This is how you love unconditionally, to be able to transcend the bubble you live in and see everything the way God see’s, which is to see the bigger picture.

Everything is exactly as it should be. Everything is by design, and therefore, everything that happens is supposed to happen at all times. And because of that, there’s an explanation for everything that happens in our lives, even if we at the time don’t quite innerstand it, there is an explanation for it. There is nothing mysterious about God, God is unconditionally loving, and he reveals anything you would want to know, because God is good and God is like a loving Father who would never hide anything from his children. There is such thing called the sin of omittance, and God doesn’t leave anything to the imagination. It’s all laid out in front of you, you just have to have eyes that see and ears that hear.
