Since it sounds like Jesus is saying, you should not depend on earthly belongings but get yourselves treasures in heaven. I figured this is talking about leaving all earthly things you enjoy, to be with God. Since earthly things dont lasts, but God is forever!
For some, this is their calling. My Cousin joined the Franciscans and has taken a vow of poverty to serve God and neighbor as a beloved Brother. He has made some amazing friendships with His brother-Friars and is joyful in this vocation that God has called him to.
As a volunteer hospital chaplain, I sometimes worked with another who was a Franciscan brother. I once said to him, “Thank God for calling some men to be brothers to the rest of us.”

No, he wasn’t named Ross, and I lived in Virginia at the time. I was a volunteer at Alexandria Hospital. Also, he was an Episcopalian Franciscan brother. Yes, they have Franciscans. He wore a giant rosary and everything.
