Are there any music that makes you joyful!

I like Gospel music

But when it comes to joy. I think of Michael Jackson. I saw the biopic Michael yesterday. It was great!

At first I thought the question was just about sacred music, and the first thing that came to mind was “For All the Saints.” It’s a lively song, and I’ve liked it since I heard it many years ago.

But some other music makes me feel joyful:

Two of Arlo Guthrie’s albums have helped me get through my life. Hobo’s Lullaby has some very good songs; one of them says, “When the world is wrong, better right yourself.” Outlasting the Blues has a lot of good songs with Christian themes and they encourage me and some of them give me joy.

At the annual Christmas concert, the Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, symphony always plays “Sleigh Ride” (the best rendition of it I’ve ever heard) and the Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah with about 150 students from the Upper Darby High School choruses singing, and the orchestra and students do an amazing job.

I too went to see “Michael” in the theaters this past weekend. I thought the guy who played his Dad did and awesome job! The relative who played grown Michael did okay. I don’t know if anyone could truly play Michael Jackson. There is only one Michael Jackson. The little boy who played young Michael was pretty good.

The wild animals looked fake as heck. I feel like we have regressed with special effects, not gotten better.

One thing that the film did was show how much people idolized Michael (and in some ways, maybe myself included). It really felt like idol worship when the camera cut to a girl in the crowd who had her eyes closed and her arm extended in the air, as though she was worshiping God (like some do in charismatic Churches). This just felt very off-putting to me.

I can’t imagine my life without Michael Jackson’s music in it. And I even get teary-eyed when I listen to some of his music and while watching this movie. But, I do not worship the man.

Here is a picture of me when I was a kid. My brother and I each got the zipper jacket for Christmas one year too. One time my babysitter (who was obsessed with MJ) put me in her Mom’s finished basement by myself with the lights turned off and put the VHS in of the “Thriller” video with the mini short film with the zombies in it. It freaked me out a little bit : )

I think Michael Jackson was humble enough to believe God blessed him with his voice (Can’t find the clip sorry, but i remember him saying it). I admire him, but not above God of course. I just think he was a great person, entertainer and great musician interms of musical giftedness!

I guess my favorite song is “Scream”. Even if that one was obviously made as a response to the false accusation the media was throwing at him at the time

But this is probably a video not many have seen, but i think this one is pretty awesome!
