Are tattoos on women a mortal sin?

Hello David! I am not a Catholic. But I do have reverential feelings for Jesus. I believe that God, our eternal Father, sent Jesus to teach us, to counsel us, to tell us that the material dimension is not our real home, and that we should not look for our reward in this dimension.

I do not accept that Jesus is God. Rather he is son of God. But just as the ambassador of the president of a country must be given the respect that is due to the president, God’s ambassador should be given the respect that that is due to God. In this sense, Jesus and God are “One”. But they are two distinct persons. One is God the Father…..and the other is His intimate associate and eteranal loving servant. But we should worship Jesus as we would worship God the Father….and this will be more pleasing to God than to try to approach Him directly.

Jesus came to teach us what love of the Father is. Except through God’s intimate loving servant, we cannot understand “love of God”. This is what Jesus has come to share with us. This is the difference between the “laws” of the Judaic path of worship, and the teachings of Jesus. The Judaic path is about laws and commandments. Obedience. Jesus is predicted as coming to teach the next step: Love of God. Jesus says this to the scribes and pharasies when they ask him “What is the highest law, the highest rule?” Jesus said directly, “The highest law is to love the Lord thy God with all of thy heart, all of they strength.” This is because above all…….God wants our love.

Love of God is not about asking God for anything. If we worship God while asking for something in return……..that is a business deal…….that is not unmotivated worship, not unalloyed worship. Real love of God is, as Jesus has shown by his personal example: "Not what I want, but all am concerned about is what is pleasing to You. Not my will, but Thy will be done.”

The line of representatives coming down to us from Jesus……..what is their qualification? Their qualification is that they can share with us the same quality of love of God the Father, as Jesus can share with us. No one can become qualified to share love of God with us by receiving the votes of other men. Even if the whole world voted for someone to be the representative of God, for sharing love of God with us, that would not serve to endow such a person with the love of the Lord that Jesus wishes to share with us. The man who receives votes……he can give us encouragement by quoting scripture, by giving sermons. But only one who has this quality of love in his heart can share the taste of love of God with us.

The genuine path for achieving, for receiving love of God is the process of spiritual empathy. One must have such an intimate quality of association with God’s loving servant, that our heart becomes influenced by their nature. For a Christian, this means that one must have such an intimate association with Jesus, or the bonafide representative of Jesus, that one begins to feel his presence and imbibe the taste of his love for God. This is what Jesus meant when he said, “There is no way to the Father except through me.” It is not that by officially going through a ceremony and saying, “I accept Jesus.”, that the job is finished. Rather, that is the first step. Just as if a medical student says, “I accept John Hopkins medical school”, this does not mean that one graduates with a diploma. He has to submit himself, heart and soul, to the training. And even then he is not qualified, not authorized to do surgery. Rather, he has to become an intern in the hospital and work as an apprentice to an authorized surgeon. He has all the text book learning. But that is not sufficient. In the same way Jesus is the “journeyman” intimate associate of God. We have cultivate love of God under his guidance. Therefore Jesus says, “Accept the yoke that I wear.” What is that yoke? It is the yoke of love of God. His every thought, word and deed are invoked under that yoke. But how can we come to that orientation, that demeanor of the heart? Only be becoming an understudy, an apprentice, an intern under his guidance. And this requires the most intimate relationship that induces Jesus, or his bonafide representative, to share his feelings of love of God with us. This is the narrow path through the “straight gate” that Jesus is pointing to. So much to consider. We have to contemplate what Jesus meant when he said, “You will say that you have done this in my name, and this, and this, and this……. but when the time comes to depart from your present body, and the time of judgement arrives, I will say unto you, ‘I never knew you’.” Therefore, if we are serious about coming closer to God, we have to begin to cultivate an ardently intimate association with Him, so that we can come to understand his heart. If we really love Jesus, or his bonafide representative, he will share his love for our eternal Father……with us. This is the way, the truth. Amen.

Peace to all,

Jesus logically is Son of Man from Heaven from the Power of the Holy Spirit and Son of Woman from Earth in the New Eve through The Immaculate Conception, becoming the Two Nature Christ in all mankind becoming again in all One Holy Holy Family, OMNILogically, I believe.

The truth is no one can deny the OMNILogicalGod, I believe, from the Father of Faith, Abraham, in the same God.

Peace always,
Stephen

The why do women conceal their tattoos while at mass?

Why doesn’t she show the priest her new tattoos of a washing machine, a windmill, tacos and rainbow flags? Or the neck tattoo of her last abusive boyfriend

If she was in the right with the Lord - she wouldn’t be hiding the “artwork”

And tonight I’ve realized I don’t even want to associate with guys who cover themselves with tattoos just because it’s the hip thing or they think it looks cool or sexy. I won’t even associate with them if I can help it!

Jesus was the son of God in the same sense as all of us are the sons of God. Nothing more.

Peace to all,

So true, Jesus always says, I have more, better, OMNILogically, from created failed become sanctified through the two natures from the becomings becoming again glorified and transfigured in One Holy Spirit Family One God in being, I believe.

Jesus is Son of Man from Heaven and Son of God, Mary through the New Eve, becoming through two sanctified natures, immortal and incorruptible becoming The Christ in all mankind, I believe.

Logically through the New Eve all mankind becomes brothers and sisters becoming for Jesus, The New Adam through The Christ in all becoming Sons and Daughters of God becoming again in all One Holy Spirit Family One God in being, I believe.

Peace always,
Stephen

I am inclined to agree with you David. “When you say, “I form my opinions based on reason and common sense. Not catholic teaching.”, I respect that, although there may be people who say that they form their opinions based on reason and common sense…..not catholic teaching, ………who are opposed to everything that faith in God stands for.

From my point of view, there are two categories of believers. One category desires to be closer to God………but does not have a living experience of the presence of God in their lives. Therefore they are inclined to cling to dogma as it is presented by the church.

The other man stands alone. He has practical heartfelt experience of God in his life. So he doesn’t feel the need to enhance his sense of self by aligning himself with institutionalized religion.

Both stands are progressive. The one who embraces what you refer to as the “teaching” is not an atheist, and thereby points his foot in the right direction………and can grow from that point.

As the church becomes hitched to the state, which includes the economics of the nation, etc., the leadership of the church will necessarily tend to become compromised. Jesus was not a Roman. But as Christianity became more prevalent among the people, the leaders of Roman government saw fit to make Christianity the religion of the nation, thereby utilizing religion as a convenient means for controlling the public mind. Such are the ways and means of this world. In this way, the “teachings” will be tweaked in order to achieve the goals of the controlling sectors of society. For example, if a given section of society stands independent of the control of the church…….the church will implement an “inquisition” as was enacted in previous centuries in which thousands were burned alive at the stake…….in the name of Jesus.

In this way, from pope to pope, new standards, new teachings will inevitably be introduced, for controlling the herd that is simultaneously being influenced by the cultural evolution of factors like science, the world-wide web, social values, etc. For example, today we have churches that marry homosexuals, endorse contraception, etc., etc.

So the question arises as to what is the real function of a pope. But in order answer this question, one has to first understand our relationship with Jesus.

Jesus teaches that good works alone are not sufficient in the eyes of God. He also teaches that love of God is the highest and foremost principle of real spiritual life. These are two ways of saying the same thing………i.e., that a heartfelt living relationship with God is actually what Jesus is teaching. Simply doing things, officially, in the name of God ……… Jesus says, “I never knew you.”

Therefore, what is required of us, is that we have to be able to open our hearts to Jesus in a degree of intimacy that enables us to imbibe from him the living taste of love of the Lord. This is what Jesus is teaching, both conceptually, and subjectively. By “subjectively”, we mean that we not only understand the philosophy that Jesus is sharing with us. We also acquire the flavor of love of God that he carries in his heart, by the process of intimate association. After all, Jesus says, “Accept the yoke that I wear”. The yoke that Jesus wears is not a physical yoke. It is the yoke of the heart, in submission to God’s will, which tempers his every thought, word, and deed.

With this in mind, we can understand, the role of the pope. If he wears the yoke the Jesus wears, then we can imbibe from him the taste of love of God that Jesus wishes to share with us. Of course, no amount of votes from a gathering of cardinals can bestow upon a man this beautification of the heart that Jesus desires to share with all of humanity. If a man doesn’t carry this beautification in his heart…….we cannot acquire this beautification from him.

Therefore, in this sense, David, your separation from the church is understandable to me. But not to those who cleave to the church as our only hope of acquiring our ticket to heaven.

As religion can be the framework of one’s total sense of self, there will naturally be some who will cry “heresy!”, and will feel self-righteous wanting to burn you at the stake. So perhaps we should be more diplomatic by trying to find a meeting point when desiring to share our views and convictions. After all, this is a form for Catholic talk. I also have opinions and convictions that are not 100% in line with the Catholicism, but I try to find a meeting point through which to share my ideas. Best wishes, Peter

I disagree with you David.

We are all sons of God. But whereas Jesus informs us that he is “In this world, but not of this world”, we are definitely “of this world”. Out of His infinite inconceivable kindness, God, our eternal Father, sends His representatives to us, from the spiritual realm, in order to inspire in our hearts a desire to qualify ourselves for immigrating to the spiritual realm, where God resides surrounded by the heavenly hosts who glorify Him in an ongoing mood of joyful celebration.

Jesus is God’s very intimate associate, who has been sent to us, for our eternal benefit. An ordinary man of this world could not do the things that Jesus did while he was here. Even when he was crucified with metal spikes through his hands and feet, his heart was so filled with spiritual love, that his foremost concern was that God should forgive those who were crucifying him. In other words, he was above the demands of the material senses, the dualities that wreak havoc in the lives of earthly men.

Jesus is empowered to do the work that he does, even to this day. But there is only one proof of this. And that is up to us. If we want to know Jesus, we have to approach him with all the sincerity and humility that we can muster, and then come to our own conclusions. According to the New Testament, Jesus could heal the sick, restore vision to the blind, instruct the winds over the waters to stop blowing forcefully, walk on the water, feet hundreds with only enough food for for a few men, foresee the future crucifixion (and accept it), rise from the tomb and walk away preaching the good news. But if we don’t accept these descriptions, then for what purpose are we gathered together here on this site?

Jesus never actually said the things you think he said. Those bible quotes of Jesus were the product of the imagination of the authors of the verse.

If we don’t accept scripture, where do we go from here?

Are you simply here to challenge religion? Religion without scripture is simply concoction.

If we don’t accept scripture, why are we commenting on this site?

Do you follow any spiritual path? Or do you simply want to say it is all BS?

Please explain your participation.

The Bible says this:

Leviticus 19:28 - You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord.

Now, what does the Catechism of the Catholic Church say about it? That’s the question

Peace to all,

In all generalizations, We will never recognize our old soiled flesh riddled with sin and stain becoming again in all from Sacrifice through Penance forgiven in all.

“The Catholic Church doesn’t have a single, explicit teaching that outright prohibits tattoos. However, the Church emphasizes the dignity of the human body and advises prudence and thoughtfulness regarding body modifications, including tattoos. While not inherently sinful, tattoos should be evaluated based on their content, purpose, and potential impact on the body’s well-being and the common good.” Logically,

So true, Peter1, Baptized brothers and sisters becoming from Sacrifice through Penance forgiven for all mankind and angels becoming Sons and Daughters of God becoming again in all creation One Holy Spirit Family One God in being, I believe.

Jesus is in the World of the flesh delivering the Body eternal through two natures, from the Power fo the Holy Spirit and Immortal Life for His Family and for all mankind becoming again, from the Father through the Mother for the Son becoming The Christ in our own personal Christs Gods in all mankind through two natures, for Jesus conceived by the Power of the Holy Spirit Family becoming the Christ in all mankind becoming again in all One Holy Spirit Family One God in being, i believe.

Peace always,
Stephen

I still think the tattoos are bad decisions that were made deliberately. They’re permanent bad decisions. A lot of them are purposely ugly. It’s a sin.

If it wasn’t wrong the women in mass wouldn’t hide them. They’d get caterpillars and spatulas and other stupid ideas on their necks and faces

What women are doing today is similar to how gang members tattoo their faces and whole bodies. But instead of gang tattoos that symbolize violence the liberal women symbolize bad behavior gone entirely unchecked by masculine men.

It’s simply Wrong behavior and the women all know it. I know it too. But some of you guys use religious word Olympics to justify the women behaving badly. But the truth is that tattoos are permanently ugly

A sin is an offense against God. I do not like tattoos but they are not a sin.

Hi Caroline!

I understand that much of our perspectives are due to cultural influences, even as they relate to our religious or spiritual beliefs and orientations. For example, women in previous centuries, or in the time of Jesus, wore dresses that went down to their shoes. Their tops were covered, never exposing the cleft of their breasts, and in some communities, the ladies covered their heads with bonnets. If one of them began to wear jeans that were torn at the knees and revealed every curve and crevice of their body, and wore a blouse that left nothing to be hidden……..the community would be incredulous. But today, the way women appear in the supermarkets, from my point of view, they might as well be naked.

Then we have the topic …… “What is sinful?”. We should not steel. We should not commit adultery. Etc., Etc. So many rules. In the Bible, Jesus was also asked by the Jewish clergy, “What is the most important rule?” And Jesus answered that the most important rule, is to love the Lord our God with all of our heart, with all of our strength. This can only mean that What God wants of us, more than anything else……is our love. It is not that He wants us to be “good boys and girls”. He wants our love. Imagine that! God enjoys our feelings of love.

With this understanding, we can begin to understand the basis for the rules of morality that we are instructed to follow. It is not that these rules are an end in themselves, our ticket to heaven. The rules are a means to an end. The idea is that if we live in a social atmosphere of peace and humanity, our hearts become progressively more able to be filled with loving feelings, and open to the awareness of God’s presence in our lives. This is why Jesus says that love of God is the highest rule…….because all of the other rules are simply for facilitating the cultivation of this highest rule……which the essence of all religion…… love of God.

With this understanding we can begin to contemplate the subject of sin. There is only one sin. And that is……any feeling in the heart that is other than directed towards the pleasure of God. After all, Jesus didn’t say that we should love God every Sunday when we go to church. He said we should love God with all of our heart, all of our strength. In other words, Jesus teaches us that the cultivation of love of “Our Father, Who art in heaven”, is an intense on-going moment-to-moment practice. This practice is the expression of, “Not my will, but Thy will be done.” In today’s jargon, Jesus’ instruction to us is, “Our lives are not about how to decorate ourselves, how to glorify ourselves, but how to give pleasure to God with every thought, word and deed.” Everything else is referred to as the worship of “Mammon”. In this sense, every impulse of the heart, is either for the pleasure of God, or for the pleasure of ourselves. And those self-centered desires are the original sin from which all the sins we can imagine proliferate.

Therefore, getting back to our discussion, if our tattoo is for the glorification of God, or for the pleasure of God, it is not sinful. And if it for our own pleasure, or our own glorification………we are departing from the instruction of Jesus.

Of course, someone who considers themself to be a disciple of Jesus today may feel that this is too austere an expression of what Jesus is teaching us. But that is a personal choice. We are told that Jesus asked us to love God with all of our hearts, and gave his life so that we could become sinless. Therefore as we love Jesus, we will do the one thing that enables us to resist all self-centered desire………and that is if we love God with all of our heart.
