Completely and perfectly correct:
Stephen says: "The “Mark of The Beast” is anything (we desire) unless the will (our will) is “The Will of The Father”.
Jesus teaches the very same concept by his personal example, when he says, “Not my will, but Thy will be done.”
In other words, to actually be a follower, or disciple of Christ, is to imbibe his spirit of selfless, unmotivated devotion to God. When we live only for God’s pleasure, this is the meaning of, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all of your heart.”
Simply to say, “I have accepted Jesus as my savior, and now I am free of responsibility for my sins.”, this is small start. But to really follow Jesus is to embrace his mood of Love for God.
Anything that we do, think, or speak, that is not intended for God’s pleasure, arises out of a desire to please ourselves. This is against the teachings of Jesus, who says, “Not my will but Thy will.” Jesus is teaching us to live for God’s pleasure. Otherwise we are Christians in name only.
This may be hard to swallow; but this is the truth. This what Jesus teaches. But these teachings become very much watered down with the passage of time.
For example, Jesus said to the wealthy man “give up all your possessions, give the proceeds to the poor and follow me.” But the man could not do it. At the same time, we have “Christian” churches in which people pray for wealth. But they consider themselves to be followers of Jesus.
Praying for wealth, or for anything other than, “Please bless me with the ability to have my heart filled with love for You.” , is a self-centered orientation. It is not living for the pleasure of God. It is using religion for serving my mundane desires. It is pious , in that this orientation acknowledges the supremacy of God. But it is far from the mark of what Jesus teaches us.
Jesus preaches pure devotional love of our Heavenly Father. Healings are there, simply to inspire faith in those who value material happiness. But these healings alone will never open the doors of heaven for the receiver. Even those who do those healings, Jesus says, “I never knew you.”
