In the Old Testament, it says a virgin who’s unmarried, who gets raped must marry the rapist and the rapist must pay the father amount of silver or something as a damage cost.
In the New Testament, the only type of divorce that is allowed. Is Sexual immorality.
Now i am assuming the rapist isn’t married to the rape victim? So the question is, how does the Catholic Church view this interms of the context of The New Covenant of “Spirit of the law” intentions (Christianity), is what matters and not follow the law literally which is the letter of the law.
In this case. Rape is a sexually immorale act, or biblically speaking it would be “Fornication” rules to why this is immorale. Outside the bible it is morally dishonorable act however.
Marriage is a commitment that never fades away when one has chosen that special someone.
So my guess is. You don’t have to marry the rapist interms of Christianity.
First, I think that the question should be “pregnancy by rape,” not “rape by pregnancy.” (This may sound obvious, but as an editor I know that not everybody sees obvious mistakes.)
No, the Catholic Church does not teach that the victim should marry the rapist. The covenant of marriage, to be valid, must be entered freely. I would not be surprised if somebody, somewhere, committed rape, repented, and later married the woman, especially if it was statutory rape (the woman being underage). But this is not the Church’s norm nor a requirement.
@DonaldDuck I have to be honest, I had trouble following your question.
Are you asking this question, because you want to rąpe someone who either is your Wife or who is not your Wife? If this is the case, which I hope it is not, then I would tell you that there is never a justification to do this heinous crime against another!
I once had a moral relativist argue that rąpe is not only justified in some cases, but is even good, in the instance that the human species was not replacing itself at a sustainable rate! He also mentioned how some animal species engage in such behavior.
Though I commend him on trying to be intellectually consisant, I argued that rąpe is always wrong!
I also argued that just because animals engage in certain behavior, does not justify human beings engaging in the behavior. My hamster had babies and then she ate them! This does not mean that it is okay for a mother (a human being) should do the same. I also remember when there was a big push to make gąy okay, some pointed out that there are some breeds of rabbits that engage in same-sęx behavior, but again, this does not mean that human beings should engage in the same behavior.
To get back to your original question, pregnancy as a result of the evil act of rąpe does not make the child less than, in terms of human value. There was a time when individuals saw slaves as less than human, and this was wrong. There are some who try to justify abortion in instances of rąpe and this too is morally wrong. I get that some frame it as punishing the woman who was rąped, but that is kind of proportion to saying that someone should be able to own slaves, because you support State’s Rights. The rights of the most innocent should come before the rights of victims. This does not mean that I think that State’s Rights are not important and especially does not mean that the rights of someone who has been a victim of rąpe do not matter at all. I just hold that you do not have the right to own slaves nor to take the life of an unborn human being!
Yikes. Heaven forbid that. But no i have no intention of raping someone, and have never done that in my life.
Its more to get a answer. Because atheists often uses the “Gotcha” citations from the Bible inorder to promote Identitarian Marxism (Which lets get real, is the only one benefitting propaganda factor, from saying how bad religion is etc). So i just wanted to get more clarifications around this.
Marxism tries to destroy both religion and the nuclear family. This is why there is often overlap between Marxists and LGBTQA.i.+.
Did you also know: Two of Karl Marx’s Daughters committed suicide and tried to get their husbands to do so too, but they were like, hard pass.
Another fun fact: Both of Luther’s Parents and siblings all converted to Lutheranism. Luther was Baptized Lutheran, but later became a staunch Atheist.
I was reading about Martin Luther and The claim that Martin Luther became a “staunch atheist” appears to be historically incorrect.
Legacy at Death: In his final years, he grew more stubborn and wrote harsh attacks against those who disagreed with him, but he never wavered in his belief in God. His last written words were “We are beggars. This is true,” referring to his total dependence on God’s mercy.
Logically, Mercy is from “Rebirth” through Baptism, Justice is for “Salvation” in Sacrifice through Penance becoming forgiven becoming again One God in being a Family. We cannot depend on Baptism, Mercy alone we have to become again from Sacrifice becoming glorified through Penance becoming forgiven becoming again transfigured through both natures in One Holy Spirit Family One God in being.
Luther’s Protest became for what he called improper indulgences and branched from there. In Catholicism, Baptism is once for all through the flesh for the soul to be able to become from death through resurrection life from Sacrifice through Penance from the Host, The Body, Blood, Souls and Divinity of the Holy Family One God in being for all becoming forgiven from the spirit through the created souls of all for the flesh to be able to become again transfigured in One Holy Spirit Family One God in being.
Logically we do not want to Protest “The Mind of God.”
When Martin tried to perfect what is derived from infinite wisdom and separate from Sacrifice through Penance Salvation becomes compromised through the Protest. In Catholicism, logically we need good works of the flesh to be able to become transfigured from Sacrifice through Penance becoming forgiven through the New Eve from Baptism becoming in the Catholic Church from Sacrifice in the Host for Penance in Confession in hearing through the Words of Absolution in Confession through the good works in Penance through hearing the Words becoming forgiven and re-Sanctified Confirmed in the Will of the Father and in Communion again to be able to become again transfigured for all Creation in One Holy Spirit Family One God in being.
Logically from created failed mortal and corrupt we become Sanctified Baptized immortalized become From Sacrifice incorruptibly re-Sanctified through Penance glorified forgiven becoming again transfigured in One Holy Family.
And we are not judging what happened and once a protest stops the Protest always returns Home from where it began, becoming again in One God in being a Family.
