A question I’ve been wrangling with: Is the USCCB technically and/or in a literal sense, a “criminal organization”?
The USCCB has apparently received hundreds of millions of dollars annually for decades from the U.S. Govt and at least during the last four years, for the “resettlement” of people who cross into the U.S. illegally.
In relation to the people who have crossed into the U.S. illegally (ie commit a crime), the USCCB is in fact aiding and abetting the criminality. The USCCB is in fact, complicit in the criminality by way of its direct involvement in aiding and abetting the process.
One of my initial thoughts was, since the funds are given to the USCCB by the U.S. Govt (rather than receiving the funds in a clandestine manner) that the USCCB (and the charities it directs and/or has involvement with) is not involved in criminal activity. They’re getting paid by the Govt, so that means everything’s ok, legal, etc.
However, that thought didn’t past muster in the same way that someone accepting Govt money to commit known covert criminality isn’t innocent of their criminal actions.
So…is it technically or literally correct to say that the USCCB, if not a “criminal organization” is and has been involved in and a perpetrator of criminal activity?
This is on both of our minds, but for different reasons. You were typing this post at the same time that I was typing this post.
Where you are more focused on what the USCCB was doing with these funds, while I was focused on the fact that they should not have been receiving these funds to begin with! Both are valid concerns.
As we saw with the DEI form of investing by Blackrock and the sort, it didn’t matter if the consumers boycotted these companies that were pushing ideologies that were contrary to the values of the consumers, because these companies would still get the funding from the top rather than from the bottom. They did not fear a dip in sails, because they would get the funding from corrupt corporations.
The same is kind of true with the USCCB and Catholic Charities. I used to give to Catholic Charities, but when these organizations began doing things that the faithful found problematic, their funding from the faithful went way down. But, they apparently didn’t care, because they were, as we know now, were getting funding from another source.
They have sold their soul to politicians. They need to get right with God!
I don’t have a problem with Catholic Charities helping individuals in need (here legally or illegally), as Christ would not differentiate, but if they are funding individuals to come here illegally, then this is criminal and it needs to stop. If these organizations were taking government funding, then I say audit the USCCB. Audit Catholic Charities.
Good points. To be clear, I don’t think USCCB is literally a “criminal organization” for many reasons including the fact that they’re a legitimate organization and their operations are not focused solely around and related to their involvement in/with illegal immigration.
However, much as you’ve pointed out in your post, I do believe in a literal sense that the USCCB and Catholic Charities et al are involved in criminal activity with their direct involvement and payment for their services related to illegal immigration.
My sincere hope is that God forbid, they’re not somehow involved directly or indirectly with child trafficking. I read recently, whether it’s accurate or not I’m unsure, that approx 300,000 children who have entered the U.S. are unaccounted for. Disappeared.
