I am fairly new here, about 2 weeks, and have noticed that some of my post will have 1 or maybe 0 post. i think we can do better than this. How about inviting some of the many past members back and join in our discussions. Also, invite some of your friends who are Catholic to this board. I think this would be a good thing.
I went to Mass this past Sunday and it felt so good. I had not been for over 3 years because I was so upset over the abuse problems we had in New Orleans. Over 350 boys and counting. They have been awarded over $350,000,000 which the church is in the process of selling under performing churches, and are ask the Catholic school to chip in. My two grandsons go to Catholic schools to the tune of $10,000 and they want my son to help pay for there sins. I don’t think so. I plan on going to confession this Saturday so I can go to communion Sunday. I am 79 years old raised in a hardshell Baptist family and met my wife at college, we were married after I graduated. She being a life long Catholic raised in New Orleans, where it is said that there is a Catholic Church on every corner, and the city being about 70% Catholic, I knew I would become a Catholic. I went RCIA and my teacher asked me to pick a Saint to help me. Well I picked Saint Therese the Little Flower and we have been together since. I have said Novena’s to her and she has come thru for me many times. I have a yard full of roses and her statue. I really enjoyed reading THE STORY OF A SOUL. Recommended reading and it was so moving.
Well, I guess I have been going on and on, but think about asking someone to join us here. The Arch Bishop of New Orleans sent a letter to be read at Mass this past Sunday asking all to invite friends back to the Church as attendance has been low, especially since the large number of abuse cases here in New Orleans. Please pray for the many boys, now men who was abused. No amount of money will ever help them to forget. Glynn
I agree!
@Tommy was working on this.
Absolutely!
That is awesome! Welcome back!
When the McCarrick scandals broke quite a few years back, I went through some of the same emotions that you are. I was angry. I was sad. And then I started to think of all the sins that I have contributed to the sins of the mystical body of Christ (clearly not as bad as abusing Seminarians, but sins none-the-less).
I am so glad that you are here! And I know others who are also glad you stumbled into CatholicTalk.
I accept your challenge. I will invite five of my Catholic IRL and online friends to join the forum. And Pray that God will lead others back to Mass and to Repentance/Conversion. And for the healing of those who have suffered abuse at the hands of bad Priests (let us also not forget about our good Priests).
My thoughts precisely!
I have started to work on this a couple weeks ago, first by creating a private Group Message, limited to 30 people each. In that Group Message, of the members I tagged and invited, zero have viewed the Message (other than the 2 moderators whom were also included and currently active).
There is a method to my madness!
Second, I have created a “form” letter which I had planned to personally send each and every member inactive more than 6 months.
However, I’ve failed to follow up with this project, no ones fault but my own, due to workload.
Thank you for the reminder.
I’m so glad to hear you are going to do this, and I think it will make us all feel good when we see others coming back and joining in with thoughts and prayers. I am asking Saint Therese to help us in my next novena to her as she has always been there for me. Glynn
I really hope people didn’t leave because of me. I really am sorry…I have a feeling some people left because of me. Well, I know for a fact one guy doesn’t respond anymore, which is a bummer. I’m better now though…I don’t do debates unless you want to private message me. I’ll pray for more Catholics to join the board.
By the way, if you see a past post of mine, you have my permission to just delete the dang thing. I know I made more posts that were nasty, but I’ve gotten better, I promise!
I assure you that you have been very respectful here. Sometimes I think you are harder on yourself than you need to be. You survived the purge. You are fine : )
Well, I wasn’t really respectful to you at one point, which I feel bad for since you always say I’m respectful. But yeah…well thank you anyways Cade!
Hello EARTH, no you have not been a pain, just the opposite. You have been one of a few that has responded to me and kept me on this board. This is why I wanted to try and get more people interested in posting and join in with Catholic fellowship. This is what it is all about. It is so wonderful to be a Catholic and to join in with conversation with fellow Catholic’s with topics I am interested in. GOD BLESS AMERICA. Glynn
Still waiting for your questions Glynn. I do better answering questions than teaching, although, I’d like to think I’m not a bad teacher.
We can also teach others by leading as an example, such as yourself. Actions speak louder than words. Mistakes in our past are not a “bad” thing, especially when God’s Glory is the end result of those mistakes/error. You are a more valued Member of the Church – of the Body of Christ – when lessons of error are learned and shared by the mistakes we’ve made. ![]()
Something I have to give credit where credit is due, is that my parents always tried to instill in us men is accountability. If we were truly in the wrong, to first of all acknowledge that what we did was wrong, and to move on and learn from it. And, in a sense Cade is right, I am a little hard on myself, but I’m a 36 year old man. I’m mature enough to know the difference between right and wrong. I know a lot of people tend to operate from the ego, but I’m one of those people who tries very hard to have what I like to call “ego deaths.” And, I’m really struggling with trying to have one particular ego death.
I’m a believer in Christ Consciousness. When one operates from the ego, one is concerned with self-gratification, and operates from a “divide and conquer” mindset. But Christ Consciousness is about unification. It’s about making decisions from a place of love. I have a definition on what Unconditonal Love really is, which is dissolution of the ego, and taking one’s worldview as your own. And the more we practice trying to be more loving, the easier it gets, at least that’s how its been for me. I just wish I could catch myself operating from ego, because a lot of people tend to think I come off as fake. I’m one of those people that, yeah, I might react in the moment, but it’s better to catch myself than to think that I’m in the clear. It’s called awareness and believe me, I’ve always been very much aware of my own actions.
But, thank you all for the compliments.
