Do you suffer from superficial preaching at your Church?

Years ago, we had to endure lay preaching–usually by a woman pastoral associate or pastoral assistant. Always a non-habited nun. Once a new bishop was installed, this grave liturgical abuse went away.

The word superficial is very subjective; the only way I recognize a superficial teaching is if I feel as though I am above that teaching. And with only five years under my belt as a returning Catholic, And only applying myself for the first time ever , I am at a point where yes I do feel as though I could have done a better job after a " superficial" reflection. That’s a very powerful feeling for ME …but then I remember what it was like as a newbie when I needed those superficial homilies.

Shortly after returning, I heard a priest say “I follow the Vatican”

Superficial yes? Those words changed my life!

Rarely. Our pastor and one of the visiting priests have been very good. One other priest said that the book of Jonah is a comical parable. (Jesus compared himself to Jonah, and I don’t think that Jesus considered it comical.)
