I remember learning about the idea that unguided evolution created all of the life on earth. It was a real attack on my faith, because it seemed like there was no room for God to be our creator. Then I learned about the scientific theory of intelligent design, and discovered that God has done a lot of creating in the history of life on earth. On the intelligent design versus evolution etc. the thing anyone will bump up against if they try to take God out of the equation is the first mover concept by Thomas Aquinas. And statistically the numbers are completely supportive of creation. Doesn’t mean evolution doesn’t happen. God can allow many things.
I agree with you that God could have allowed some evolution, but also stepped in at specific points where intelligent design was necessary. The article I linked discusses three places where God’s intelligent design is very evident.
I am teaching evolution to my students (secondary school) at the moment. I guess maybe next year or next year I can ventilate to them that it is only a theory and that there are facts that contradict it. Knowing that this may cause a stir, I will have to find a way to say it without causing a stir.
I do believe that evolution happens in the present - though I might prefer to call it mutation.
For my recent research (I always take a brush for the newest news when I teach the topic of evolution), I discovered that scientists have found that the genetic difference between Darwins finches was in all cases related to differences in one single gene: https://www.sciencenews.org/article/genetic-evolution-darwins-finches
and that the relevant gene is known in humans to control facial features. So I would conclude that Darwin really did not observe different species of finches, but simply finches that looked differently.
I do think that that information does diminish the force of Darwins theory, when his empiric observations prove to not support his claims.
I don’t know whether it’s evolution or mutation, but microorganisms become immune to antibiotics, if I understand correctly. But if tyrannosaurus evolved from allosaurus, why would nature select tiny arms? I can’t see evolution at work there.
I never go deep in science to find God, but I go deep In God’s teachings to fallow Him in a better way. AI, OMGO, is not created by God, why in the world God would give Satan tool to undermined his creation? AI is the new tool and very deceful one, that Satan are using to do his last blow on the family! And sad to say, many Catholics are falling for, including " The Catholic Answer " web site. We don’t need Artificial Intelligence to know or to find God, or to get closer to God. He gave us the Intelligence, we already have the Artificial Insemination, The Artificial Birth pill. The word Artificial, says it all. Sorry, we got pray asking God to help us discern what is from Him and what is from the Devil. The Pillar of our society is been destroyed by the modernism. “The Family”.
Consider the computer that sits on my desk. It is filled with AI, artificial intelligence. It has various programs that can do amazing things. So where did it come from? Obviously it was designed by wonderful intelligent minds of men. But if I say, "Oh no! There are no men doing research to create this computer. There are no factories with assembly lines. There are no shipping companies to deliver it to me. This computer simply appeared on my desk by chance! I woke up one morning and there it was. If I said this, you would think me mad.
Just consider, the movement of the seasons, the universal clock. Just consider the genetic code, the chromosomes. Just consider how a seed contains all the information the directs the seed to expand, imbibe minerals from the earth, absorb the light of the sun, and the water fro the earth and create a sprout, that bears flowers! And that the flowers have male and female qualities, that combine to produce fruits. And that the fruits contains seeds that are computer chips that hold directions for the production of more plants. This is computer programming that surpasses anything any person on earth can dream of doing. Therefore anyone who rejects the idea that the intelligence in my computer simply happened by chance…how can that same person think for a moment that the wonderful workings of nature (which are millions of times more complex) simply happened by chance? This kind of thinking is simply an expression of a heart that is determined to be closed to God. There is an intelligence behind the workings of the universe. Only the envious heart will reject this understanding. Envy of the unlimited greatness of God.

Nature cannot possibly have created itself. Nature cannot possibly have self-assembled. Life cannot possibly have originated from non-life. We live in a miraculous would, the proof of our divine creator is seen everywhere:

There is a computer chip that one can put into the soil, and by adding a little water, and the kiss of sunshine…it has all the instructions in it …to transform mud and water into a stem and leaves that are green…and flowers, some red, some yellow…some soft purple. And each flower has its own scent, so delicate that it can’t be produced in any laboratory. But it doesn’t stop there. Each flower has male and female parts. And when the bees come, attracted by the scent of the flowers…they fetilize the flower by dusting the female parts, with the pollen grains of the male parts. And then when the flower is content and returns to the earth, the pollenated seeds sprout in the earth, in response to the moisture and the kiss of the sun. And all of that “programming”, all of those instructions existed in that first seed that we planted. Let the man in the laboratory create a computer chip that can do all of that. Maybe we should nominate God to receive a Nobel Prize for His wonderful inventions…

Evolution doesn’t contradict our religion. I strongly believe in it, and it doesn’t weaken my faith. I believe that the way our universe started, and the way we differentiated from other animals, was through the intervention of God, but it doesn’t mean this was created instantly. Evidence for evolution is everywhere, and for most scientists, there is no logic in studying biology and understanding how we and other species work without evolution.
Yes, there are aspects that are incredibly precise and specific, but this doesn’t mean everything was created instantly. A very, very long time allowed these systems to develop. All mechanisms are essential for life, and without them, life would either not exist or would have different mechanisms that would be equally complex (imagine that for each mechanism evolution produced, there could be several other possible ones that don’t exist because others came first or there wasn’t enough time).
The Church says that science walks together with religion, and believing in the Big Bang, evolution, and other areas of science doesn’t go against our faith, it just gives different meanings. I like to see the universe as a creation of God in the sense that He wrote the laws of physics and the fundamental way everything works, and may influence certain outcomes here and there, like making humans sentient, but He allowed evolution to happen, as He designed a system where it could occur. For me, that is the nature of the holy creation.

Thank you for talking about “Love”. Jesus says that of all the rules and laws in spiritual or religious life, Love is the most important vital principle. Jesus says we should love God, “with all of our heart and with all of our strength.” Jesus says that he didn’t come to us in order to remove or change any of our religious laws, like the 10 commandments, but he came to give us the unfolded conclusion of all religion…which is “Love of God”.
Covered by flesh, we are asleep to our real nature. Servants of flesh…which is material…we give our love to things which cannot reciprocate, cannot love us back. Not our car, not our house, not our social status, not our bank account, not our credit card, not our wardrobe…all of these things are material…but we are spiritual. Because these things cannot reciprocate our love, therefore everyone feels that what they have is “not enough”. Therefore the whole world walks on the treadmill of “More”. More money. More possessions. More power…thereby causing one man to enslave another through imperialsitic endeavors…and wars.
Love …is our inherent nature as pure spirit, even though covered by the dictates of the flesh, in separation from our Lord.
We are all individual spirit souls. And yet we are all One. Because we are part of the body of God. Just like in our physical body: there are trillions of indivdual cells; but all the individual cells are are part of the one body. Therefore we are all inconceivably, simultaneously, “One and different.” “One and individual.”
The teaching of Jesus is to understand our relationship with God, as part and as One. Consider the leaves on the tree. Every leaf needs water. If they try to water themselves, they will never be satisfied. If the odd leaf tries to do the “good works” of watering the other leaves, the others will not be satisfied. But if one leaf pours water on the root of the tree, everyone becomes statisfied.
Because we are part of the the Tree of Life, part of God…when we give our love to God (instead of to Mammon), our hearts become immediately fulfilled. Therefore jesus tells us that this is the highest religious principle, the highest religious law. As we begin to sense God’s loving reciprocation, we become free … free of our slavery to the illusory dictates, and false promises of the flesh. And the flesh then also becomes the servant of God in a spirit of love.
Then we become, as you say Stephen: “One Holy Spirit Family One God in being.”

The bodies of Adam and Eve have two natures failed from the corrupt spirit through the mortal life becoming in one failed body
The spirit becomes flesh from logic through the Big Bang, becoming from light energy, becoming in the Big Bang becoming light mass creating space time for both natures becoming one body.
What is created is failed love with choice to love or to love not becoming again, loving with only the most love through both natures immortalized flesh from spirit in corruption becoming again One Two Nature Holy family fulfilled.

I believe that there are many examples. Take a spider web; The spider builds the same type of wed that its parents build but he never met them. The design is pure genius. The strength of material is stronger than human made fibers.
The existence of the frontal lobes of the brain allows planning and creative thinking.
The thumb that opposes the fingers allowing fine motor skills.
Finger and foot prints that provides traction.
We take these things for granted but each development is genius!
