Hi Dustin, Welcome to the forum.
I probably have a different take on this than others do. I have heard interviews with “Satanists.” There are a few different types of Satanists:
I am of the belief that if you protest there antics, it draws more attention to them, and as a result more individuals who might not have otherwise joined their cause will hear about them and join.
There was a time in the 80’s and early 90’s referred to as “Satanic Panic,” where the media and day-time television shows were hyping Satanism, and creating a lot of fear among housewives (Moms mostly). Rebellious kids began spray-painting underpasses with Satanic symbols for fun. Bands began using similar imagery to sell albums. And this only spread the fear among the concerned.
And when something tragic would happen in a community (like a murder), they would be quick to say that it was “Satanic,” because that was the outrage/fear of the day (like how many on the so-called Left think they see Nazis around every corner, and how some on the so-called Right are spray-painting related symbols under underpasses and making hand signs to troll them. A similar thing happened when the so-called Right were panicked about the so-called Left “coming for their children.” And some on the so-called Left began chanting, “We’re coming for your children” to troll them.)
We should be Praying for all of these individuals who will participate in the planned “Satanist Mass.” And if they are using the Holy Eucharist to perform their ritual, this is extremely sad and a sacrilege.
Pray a Rosary for their conversion. God loves them still, and we are called to love and Pray for our enemies. Some view this as a sign of weakness. Some would rather us be like some Muslims who respond to mockery with violence. Jesus said, “If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first” (John 15:18).
“You have heard that it was said ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on [your] right cheek, turn the other one to him as well” (Matthew 5:38-39)
More people will respond to love than with hate. I feel sorrow for these individuals, more than I do hatred and disgust.
Come Holy Spirit, as we Pray, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do (Luke 23:34).
I would like to add one more thing. I caution anyone who wants to call for the state to step in when we are offended by the beliefs and practices of another. In every Country where “hate laws” have been enacted, it almost always ends up being used against Christians. Cancel-culture only breeds more of what you dislike. The best response is to breed more of what you do like. Have babies, raise them to love Jesus and to love their neighbors (the Old Testament said “be fruitful & multiply” and I say multiply and be fruitful : )
In this case, that’s what a lawsuit and protest are asking for, because the black mass is planned for the state house grounds. (I read this on, I think, the National Catholic Register website.) But what you said applies, Cade: if the satanists are banned from doing their thing on the capitol grounds, I suppose that everyone else will be too.
