Happy Easter everyone!

If you went to the Easter Vigil this year, when were the electric lights inside the church turned on?

  • The lights were never off.
  • They were all turned on immediately when the Paschal candle was placed in its stand.
  • They were progressively turned on during the Exsultet.
  • Half or most of the lights were turned on before the end of the Exsultet, but others during the Gloria.
  • They were all or almost all turned on during the Gloria.
  • Other (please describe).

I will note that not all of these options are allowed by the rubrics in Missal. I’m just trying to get a sense of what people experience in their parishes.

They were off and we were all holding Candles which were lit from the Easter Candle from a fire that was outside the front door except at the Alter the Priest had to see what he was reading.It was a very beautiful mass.The Easter candle went out and an Alter boy went to the Alter and relit it from the candles on the Alter which were lit from the Easter candle.It went out when the Priest was blessing the baptismal fount.We had 4 new people join the Church that evening.I can’t really be sure I don’t remember I was just focusing on the Mass.We had a little glitch with the Candle and you could see the Priest we relieved that the candles on the Alter were lit by the Easter candle.
