I honestly have seen orthodox Christians, muslims, and protestants become Eastern Rite Catholics. They are just basically Orthodox Christians who agree with Catholic doctrines. I know they like some of the tradition, but there are reasons why Roman catholics dont do those traditions. Why not just be a Roman Catholic?
One reason is liturgy. Some people that have not been exposed to the Traditional Latin Mass but are disillusioned with the Novus Ordo prefer the much more reverent liturgies of the East.
A second reason is that they prefer the more mystical approach rather than the more reason based western scholasticism.
***A note of clarification: Eastern Catholics are in communion with Rome, otherwise they wouldn’t be Catholic.
Catholic is Catholic, as far as I know. The Eastern Catholics just have a lot of rites.
I used to listen to a lot of Eastern Orthodox Podcasts and they were much less charitable towards Catholic Christians than we are towards them, and many of them view us weaker for it. But, one of the things that I recall being different is that they are okay with mystery, whereas we always try to define answers to questions. And If I had to bet, Eastern Catholics share a similar spirituality of embracing the mystery, rather than reasoning. I would say that one is more from the heart than from the head, and I tend to be more a head person, though we need a healthy ballence of both.
