What ever Happened to Underground Rapper manChild (famously of Mars Ill)?

I remember going to the Christian bookstore and skimming the Music Section as a kid. I can still remember picking up the Mars Ill album Raw Material, as it caught my eye, but I didn’t buy it at the time, because I didn’t really know who they were or what this duo (manChild and Dust) sounded like.

It wasn’t until I found out that manChild had become Catholic Christian that I decided to give Mars Ill a listening to and now I do have Raw Material in my CD collection : )

After becoming Catholic, manChild began putting out some fantastic solo Albums (unfortunately digital only). One of my favorite songs being “Feelin’ Good”, which samples Michael Bublé (whom I also really like). I’ve though about re-mixing my own version these two songs for my own personal listening enjoyment.

ManChild is one of the most talented, if not the most talented, hip-hop lyricists I’ve ever heard!

I still rock this Mars Ill T-Shirt! Private message me and I will send you a picture of me wearing the shirt : )

Here is the video “Loves Not” that manChild performed at Catholic Underground. And here is the Behind the Scenes of that video.

What ever happened to manChild? I Pray that he and his family are doing well.

what about Joe Melendrez ? He is a popular Catholic rapper who loves the rosary.

“What ever happened to underground rapper, manChild?”

He grew up?!

Never heard of him (nothing personal).

They probably get killed at some point or change their names if in trouble with other hoods or maybe they make it and decide to ditch their old rapper persona.

‘Underground’ cultures are more dangerous because success isn’t huge enough to put safe distance between them and their old rivals and possible competition and if in gangs then that risk could be heightened. Of course, some rappers decide to keep their music more connected to their roots and so remain in the indie culture. I don’t see the point in that. Making money from their work is a sign of their skill-level.

A lot of times what happens to signed Christian artists who become Catholic Christian, is that they start to have a Family and see this as their higher vocation (and there is something ordered and good to this, though I miss their talent).
