A daily Catholic prayer

Morning prayer Monday June 8 2026

Inspired by the daily Catholic mass readings, by Elijah at the Brook Cherith, the Beatitudes, and “the forgotten way” by Matthew Kelly, and the four absolutes as proposed by the Oxford group.

Our Prayer to God

Heavenly Father,

We come before You as Elijah stood beside the brook, dependent upon Your providence and unable to sustain ourselves apart from Your grace. We confess that we often place our trust in visible resources rather than in You, the Creator of heaven and earth.

Lord Jesus Christ, You climbed the mountain and proclaimed the Beatitudes. Yet we confess that we frequently seek happiness where it cannot be found. We desire comfort more than holiness, recognition more than humility, certainty more than trust.

Forgive us for the pride that clouds our vision.

Forgive us for the fears that drown out Your voice.

Forgive us for the self-centeredness that keeps us from becoming peacemakers.

Grant us Absolute Honesty to see ourselves as we truly are.

Grant us Absolute Purity in thought, word, intention, and action.

Grant us Absolute Unselfishness in our relationships and decisions.

Grant us Absolute Love toward You and toward every person You place in our path.

Teach us to recognize the ravens You send each day, those unexpected signs of Your care and provision.

Teach us to hunger and thirst for righteousness.

Teach us to become poor in spirit so that we may become rich in faith.

Teach us to receive Your providence with gratitude and Your corrections with humility.

We place before You our fears, our uncertainties, our ambitions, our relationships, our work, our future, and our very selves.

We pray in the name of our Lord and Savior your son Jesus Christ.

Speak, Lord, for Your servants are listening.

Amen.

In the Spirit of the Oxford Group and the Four Absolutes

(Absolute Honesty, Absolute Purity, Absolute Unselfishness, Absolute Love)

Begin with a few moments of silence. Place yourself consciously in the presence of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Read the Scripture passages slowly. Ask only for the grace to hear and obey.

Lord Jesus Christ,

You are the Bread that never fails, the Light that cannot be extinguished, and the Lord of every empty jar and every dried brook.

We place ourselves before You in humility and trust. Quiet the noise within us. Remove our desire to justify ourselves. Grant us the grace of Absolute Honesty so that we may see ourselves as You see us.

Send Your Holy Spirit to guide our thoughts, purify our motives, and illuminate whatever You desire us to know.

We surrender this time to You.

Amen.
