Our Lady of the Atonement Catholic Church, a member of the Ordinariate recently hired a Morman music director to direct adult and children’s choirs, play the organ, and teach in the parish school. Father Kramer, the Vicar General, who made the hire, says that Bishop Lopes, who is the head of the Ordinariate and head of the Committee for Divine Worship reviewed Church teaching and documents and approved the hire. The bishop and the vicar general are defending this hire and turning their backs on the traditionally minded parishioners who did not approve of this. Why do bishops seem to want to intentionally go after the members of the Church who really want to support their shepherds?

I can only assume the Mormon candidate was the best musician?
I hope Susanne.Lee is right. I guess my only worry would be if he starts spouting off on his beliefs and are trying to convert Catholics to Mormonism.
There’s a lot of mixed reactions in regards to modern day Mormonism. Some people think it’s a cult while others swear by it and wouldn’t change a thing about it. If this Mormon is able to show that they’re the most qualified candidate, the only gripe I would have would be professionalism, meaning can they produce good music with the intention of keeping their personal ideas and beliefs to themselves. It’s one thing if this person was to outright start talking about his beliefs or share his beliefs with others, compared to keeping things professional on a professional level and leave the personal stuff at his home.
Hopefully he does show some professionalism and realize that he’s teaching in a Catholic setting, and therefore, he should probably honor the Catholic viewpoint. But unless you’re actually in the classroom itself, you might not ever know. And I would be more leery of him teaching children than presenting his concepts to an adult. A child is like a sponge, they’re very easily impressionable. An adult on the other hand can discern the difference between anything foreign or outside the Catholic view and anything that supports the Catholic view.
I would think everything would be ok if he just taught music, but I can’t say definitively that it’s a good thing.
Honestly, when it comes to school anymore, I’d try my best to hire a tutor or become a teacher to your child and get them home-schooled, cause schools are becoming weird anymore. And not just the private schools, but both private and public. I dunno if I trust any school anymore, if I’m being honest.
