There have been songs written about artists “selling their souls to the devil.”
Rapper Fat Joe’s own brother (who recently got out of jail, said in an interview that he believes his brother had sold his soul to the devil.
We often see Pop Artists put out music videos or half-time performances that glorify depictions of evil.
Do you believe these artist have actually sold their souls (is it even possible to sell one’s soul) or do you believe they have rather become enslaved by men (or the industry)? Or perhaps both?
There was a rockabilly star (I forget his name) who said he belonged to the devil. I think that every serious sin gives more of one’s life to the devil. People choose to do wrong because they think it will get them what they want—if they even think about it.
Do people ever make an actual contract with the devil? It wouldn’t surprise me. But people will give up their souls for a small price, like Esau with the porridge.
Getting back to music artists, I’m sure they are risking hell even if they don’t believe in it. I saw a photo of Mick Jagger’s obscene behavior on stage. AC/DC sang about a highway to hell. The Grateful Dead sang about being a friend of the devil. There are, I’m sure, many other songs about the devil, not to mention songs glorifying sin. I’m sure that such music opens performers and listeners up to the devil.
Strangely, though, not everybody who sings about God or faith is necessarily good, but I hope that making music of faith opens one up to God.
