Catholic Christians should not be celebrating “Transgender History Month”!
National Catholic Reporter is a political publication more than a Catholic publication. It is no different than Life Site News and CatholicVote, but from the Left.
There are some serious historical errors in the article above. Of all the pruported saints listed in the article that are actually Saints, the only one that comes close to possibly being considered transgender would be Marinos. There is, however, something very telling about that story. While Marinos is considered a Saint to the Orthodox, she is not considered one in the Catholic or Oriental Churches. Since Marinos reportedly lived in the 4th century, the only way that this would happen is if she only became venerated after 1200AD, nearly 900 years after her death. I would be interested in why she was suddenly venerated. Also, if you actually look at the earliest accounts of her life (written over 100 years after she was reported to have lived) in no way does she identify as male. It is simply an assumption made by the other monks. This would have been easy to mistake, as monastic community she entered with her father was hermetical, meaning that they lived alone for most of their lives outside of hiking to the monastery center for supplies once a week or so.
Many treat the historicity of Marinos in the same vein as the ‘Pope Joan’ legend.
