_This is a little thing I created for my own amusement._ ![Luce - Is it Cake](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex015/uploads/catholic365/original/1X/349127fa6eae2628c179fb5e5590645290561eaf.jpeg) Why not instead make a manga about the life of Takashi Nagai as a boy? He actually didn’t experience a conversion until adulthood, but it could be loosely based on his life (a slice of life ; ) It could also star Satoko Kitahara as a girl. She also experienced a conversion in adulthood. I say replace Luce with these Catholic saints. Saint Maximilian Kolbe spent a year in Japan and there is Japanese fan-fiction written about him. They could even play off of these stories. Two of these historical fiction books have been translated into English. I own one written in Japanese, but it is more of a conversation peace, since I can’t read the language. I also own a Bible in Japanese. My daughter loves anime and she is learning Japanese for our trip there after she graduates. But, I wanted to get everyone opinion on this [plan to make Luce the official mascot of the Holy Year 2025](https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/260129/meet-luce-the-vatican-s-cartoon-mascot-for-jubilee-2025). ---

Sounds wonderful to me! We have no end of amazing saints and holy figures in our rich history—and that’s the best they could come up with??? Bizarre. ---

I find it effeminate and therefore a perfect symbol for the type of men running the church. Then again, I don’t get the whole anime thing to begin with so I am probably biased. ---
