If you are a TLM Catholic, do you and your family do the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary proposed by John Paul II?

I know most trads don’t since they weren’t part of the Rosary as given to St. Dominic, but I actually like them and tend to use them on Thursdays as proposed by JPII.

I like the Luminous Mysteries. I am trad-adjacent, in that I think traditionalists have valid arguments when it comes to reverence in the Sacred Liturgy.

No, I don’t say the Luminous Mysteries. In addition to adding the Luminous Mysteries, however beautiful, it messed with the beautiful recitation structure of the traditional Rosary schedule.

The traditional structure is Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious (Mon-Sat) with Sunday rotating through the year, as follows:
Advent to beginning of Lent: Joyful Mysteries
Sundays during Lent: Sorrowful Mysteries
Easter to Advent: Glorious Mysteries

While I see the beauty of the Luminous Mysteries, I believe the traditional recitation structure is even more beautiful and just makes sense to me.

God bless and keep you!

As an update to my original post, my family has stopped with the Luminous Mysteries even though we are still rather fond of them.

We now adhere to this schedule that is in one of my Missals.

The Luminous Mysteries are divinely inspired, as per St. JPII’s inspiration to include them.

On the subject, Trad Caths can do what they want because they’re not really Catholic in the strictest sense, i.e. more along the lines of separated ‘brethren’ (to use a word equally as out-of-date).

I love the Luminous Mysteries too. They bring the public life of Jesus into the Rosary beautifully. JPII’s gift to the Church. There’s a little app, Rosaria, that gives the day’s mysteries automatically. Free, no ads, works offline. Might help with consistency.

I enjoy the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary, or the Mysteries of Light, because they emphasize the sacramental life of the Church.

I’m not too concerned about the mysteries being in addition to what was given to St. Dominic. Almost everyone I know prays the Fatima prayer during the Rosary, and that was not given to St. Dominic.

As a devotion, the Church is free to change the disciplines surrounding the recitation of the Rosary. We are all free to choose when and how to pray the Rosary. What matters is that we pray!

Clearly you have animus for Saint John Paul. I am sad for that. Never the less he did not change the Rosary and no one is compelled to pray the Luminous Mysteries. From the Dominicans themselves (arguably the experts) we have this explanation;

_"To the above objections_, it could be said that: (1) While no one may add to the number of Psalms since the Psalms are a part of Scripture, Hail Marys may be added to the Rosary, even as most Catholics add three to the beginning of the Rosary for an increase in faith, hope, and love. (2) Our Lady delights in nothing more than drawing our attention to her Son. Hence, her counsel in the second mystery—“Do whatever he tells you” ([John 2:5](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+2%3A5&version=NABRE))—forms the Marian foundation of all the “mysteries of light’” (_[Rosarium Virginis Mariae](https://www.vatican.va/content/john-paul-ii/en/apost_letters/2002/documents/hf_jp-ii_apl_20021016_rosarium-virginis-mariae.html)_[21](https://www.vatican.va/content/john-paul-ii/en/apost_letters/2002/documents/hf_jp-ii_apl_20021016_rosarium-virginis-mariae.html)). (3) Sartorial concerns should not determine the devotional life of the Church; just the opposite. Furthermore, nothing prohibits the use of a traditional fifteen-decade Rosary"

Oh my gosh! You are the “debate me bro’” meme 😂

Not every Pope is perfect. In fact, not one single Pope—is perfect. And some are worse than others. Do I think that JP2 did some tings that I wish he hadn’t? I do. Do I think that he himself would be the first to say that some things he had done were not good? I do.

Lastly, if _you_ were Pope, do you think there would not be some things that you would do or say that are not good? _Sorry, I forgot you do not answer questions about yourself._

I think we can criticize any Pope when they do something wrong (and I have numerous times). That is not an issue for me. My problem with you, personally, is that you view things through a certain lens where you mispresent what someone has actually said or done. You have done this to me. And you have done it to Blessed Fulton J. Sheen. And now you are doing it to John Paul II.

To keep you intellectually honest. [Are there anything that a Pope has done wrong under Vatican I?](https://forum.catholictalk.net/t/are-there-anything-that-a-pope-has-done-wrong-under-vatican-i/4260)

_Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed are you among women and Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus… The first luminous mystery: Jesus is Baptized in the Jordan River…_
