I would like to congratulate my American neighbours on this forum on the imminent beatification of one your compatriots, Archbishop Fulton Sheen.

In honour of his beatification, I thought it would be good to start a thread where we can each post a Sheen book recommendation.

My recommendation is actually an anthology of Sheen writings edited by Allan Smith, who is Canadian (I couldn’t resist mentioning that): The Cries of Jesus from the Cross (Sophia Institute Press).

It is a collection of Sheen’s writings about the seven last words of Jesus (i.e. his words from the Cross).

I look forward to finding out what your Sheen book recommendation is.

I love Fulton J. Sheen and I am super excited about his beatification!

I’ve never actually read any of his books, though I have many of them sitting in my wish-list.

I know Patrick Coffin (also Canadian) has recommended a few of Sheen’s books on his Podcast, but I cannot recall offhand which ones he had mentioned.

Hi Cade, in charity, I would like to have a discussion with you about religious indifferentism and the fact that the Psalms says all the religions of the gentiles are devils and the design of the devil and not Jesus Christ.

We also know that God is a jealous God and does not tolerate the worship of false gods; right?

Did you know that Sheen promoted religious indifferentism? He said that there is something good in all religions. That’s blasphemy. Only God is good. False gods are of the devil.

Cade, if you go to this video and go to the 13:50 minute mark and listen to what Sheen says. It’s right out of his own mouth. He was a heretic and the Vatican II sect who also promotes religious indifferentism “beatified” him. Can you see a problem here, if you agree that all false religions are of the devil??

Saying there is something good in all religions does not equal religious indifferentism.

Religious indifferentism is saying that it doesn’t matter what you believe, or who/how you worship, or how you live.

Saying there is something good in all religions is to acknowledge that some things in those religions are true, good, and beautiful. It does not mean that all things in those religions are true/good/beautiful. It also does not mean that those other religions are more true/good/beautiful than the Catholic Christian religion.

It is deep in our tradition to acknowledge that there are elements of truth, beauty, and goodness in other religions. For example, St. Augustine said that the angels of God whispered to the Gentile pagans before Christ came so that they would be prepared to accept him when the Gospel message would come to them.

Canadian “priest”

For you to say that false religions are true, good and beautiful, completely opposes Jesus Christ and implies that salvation could be attained thru them, and that the Holy Ghost is the author of these false religions, which is blasphemy.

Luke 18:19 And Jesus said to him: Why dost thou call me good? None is good but God alone.

Bergoglio, your dead heretical leader of the Vatican II sect said that the Holy Ghost is the author of false religions.

Jesus’ peace, does not come thru promoting, respecting, esteeming and embracing false religious, it brings war. Read the Book of Jeremias, there are many parallels today relating to Jeremias!

False religions do not come from Jesus Christ, they come from the devil. There is no way around this truth.

John Paul II’s “Assisi Prayer Day For Peace” in 1986 was the most outrageous act of apostasy against Jesus Christ. This act of John Paul II and the things that he says in his heretical and antichrist writings is without a doubt, the evidence that he was the antichrist.

He was loved by the world, treated like a “Rock Star”. But Jesus says His apostles would be hated by the world. That is another clear clue.

Saying that there is something good in all religions is neither indifferentism nor blasphemy. It is reality. We can go through each false religion if you would like to. Is your claim that all false religions contain nothing good? Not one thing?

Did you listen to what he said before the 13:50 minute mark? He says, just because other religions do or believe similar things to the Apostolic Faith, it does not therefore make those religions true religions.

I disagree with Fulton Sheen here after the 13:50 marker, that we should not point out where we disagree. We should do both. We can find common ground while also pointing out our differences. It isn’t one or the the other.

But, if you listen to the end of that video, Bishop Fulton J. Sheen does distinguish between the false religions and the true Christian Faith.

So, I think your confusion is that where Fulton Sheen is comparing truth, you are interpreting him to be saying that all religions are the same. And he is not saying this. In fact he is saying the opposite in this Episode. For if he were saying what you claim he is saying, that would be indifferentism and blasphemy, but he isn’t saying this.

He is simply saying that there are things in other religions that are true. And that is not a false statement. And he is saying that because these other religions may teach some truths, it does not therefore make them true religions, nor equal to the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Faith. Then he concludes by saying why the Chrisians Faith is true and why the other religions are not.

Furthermore, I would bet that if you stood and talked on any topic for 25 to 30 minutes, that you would say something that might be misinterpreted.

And then there is the phenomenon where if you are looking for something to complain about, you will find something. My brother (now an Atheist) Church-hopped with his Wife after they got Married. And every Church they went to, he found something (whether that was “hypocrisy” or opposed to his worldview) and so he concluded that Church wasn’t for him.

You are doing something similar. You view everything through the lens of Vatican I vs. Vatican II. And so, anything that sounds like it confirms your bias, you will point the finger and say, “See!”

One of the things that I really like about Trent Horn is that he argues what someone actually believes, rather than his own understanding of it or misrepresentation of it.

Trent also runs by his shows with individuals who hold to those beliefs. Recently, he did an Episode about teachings of the LDS Church that he found surprising. And he asked a Mormon Apologist to make sure what he was saying was in deed accurate of what they believe. And when you read the comments, you see LDS thanking him for being fair.

How many times have you been in a discussion with a Protestant or Evangelical Christian who makes claims about what Catholic Christians believe, but what they claim is not in fact what we believe? This happens a lot and does it give them more or less credibility? And if one of these calls Catholicism “demonic” or “of the devil,” does this convince you that what they say is true?

You are saying that Bishop Fulton Sheen is saying something that he is not, based on a small statement that one could twist to their own desire.

You can go ahead and hate Bishop Fulton J. Sheen. But, if you are going to disagree with him, at least disagree with what he actually believes and not what you want to believe about him.

There is nothing true in the devil’s designs. Trent Horn is a heretic. The “Second Vatican Council” was a robber council that was diametrically opposed to the consistent teachings of the Catholic Church from the beginning.

Again, you argue like many Evangelical Protestants that I encounter. In fact, one said this very thing last week about her belief in her Bible Alone theology. I asked her, “What happens if two Christians disagree on a matter of faith, morals, or even Sacred Scripture, where does the Bible say to go?” Rather than answer the question Biblically, she said that the Word of God is easy to understand, so any disagreement is because you are not a Christian.

So far, I have hear you make both of these argument. 1. Things are as they are written, not hard to understand and 2. Anyone who does not agree with your understanding (or in your case, with your understanding of Vatican I alone) then you are not a Christian.

Yes, your theology is not the same as Evangelical Protestants, but your arguments are quite similar. And the way that you act as though you are the judge of souls, calling anyone who does not agree with your push “demonic” or “satanic” is right out of the Zionist handbook (though you are not a Zionist).

I do not accept. However, I have a few questions to ask you that I think will be important to your challenge.

  1. Are you a sede? And if so, who was the last validly elected Pope?
  2. Do you believe that Christ gave the Apostles and their successor the authority & responsibility “to loosen and to bind” and what does this mean to you?
  3. Are you a member of SSPX? And if so, were the original Priests of the Society of Saint Pius X ordained under Vatican I or under Vatican II? Were these Priests validly ordained in your opinion? Why or Why not?
  4. Were you raised Trad?
  5. Do you dress like a Trad? And if so, why do you dress in the style of Vatican I and not of an earlier time-periods? Are you a more modern Trad?

If someone believes in only the things of pre-modern Tradism, are they more Trad than you? I’m just curious about how Trad you truly are. And how you categorize one’s Tradness. Is a sede more trad or less trad than a member of the SSPX? Is someone who only believes up until what the Council of Trent taught more trad than someone who accepts Vatican I?

THE SCRIPTURES CERTAINLY DO CURSE AND REJECT THE JEWS BECAUSE THE JEWS FIRST REJECTED JESUS. TODAY, THEY DON’T EVEN FOLLOW THE TORAH, THEY FOLLOW A MAN MADE PERVERTED VERSION HEAVILY INFLUENCED BY BABYLONIANISM.

And by the way, the remnant of the jews cited in the Apocalypse has already been collected by the hand of St. Vincent Ferrer; he was the angel of the Apocalypse that rises from the church. This is prophesied in the OT too.

Here is the next big lie from what the Vatican II sect says.

Paul VI first says that the muslims worship the same God as the Catholics and then he dials it back by saying that the muslims don’t recognize Jesus as God but only a prophet.

Vatican II, Lumen Gentium # 16: “But the plan of salvation also embraces those who acknowledge the Creator, and among these the MUSLIMS are first; they profess to hold the faith of Abraham AND ALONG WITH US THEY WORSHIP THE ONE MERCIFUL GOD WHO WILL JUDGE MANKIND ON THE LAST DAY.”

Paul VI like a snake, first says that the muslims worship God the Creator of heaven and earth who has spoken to men, guess what, that is Jesus, He is the Creator of heaven and earth.

John 1:1-4, 14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him: and without him was made nothing that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. …And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we saw his glory, the glory as it were of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

And then after injecting the lie, Paul VI softens the lie by saying though they don’t recognize Him as God but only a prophet. This is how heretics write, just like their father the devil; in subtlety.

This manner of dissimulating and lying is vicious, regardless of the circumstances under which it is used. For very good reasons it can never be tolerated in a synod of which the principal glory consists above all in teaching the truth with clarity and excluding all danger of error.

Moreover, if all this is sinful, it cannot be excused in the way that one sees it being done, under the erroneous pretext that the seemingly shocking affirmations in one place are further developed along orthodox lines in other places, and even in yet other places corrected; as if allowing for the possibility of either affirming or denying the statement, or of leaving it up the personal inclinations of the individual – such has always been the fraudulent and daring method used by innovators to establish error. It allows for both the possibility of promoting error and of excusing it.

It is as if the innovators pretended that they always intended to present the alternative passages, especially to those of simple faith who eventually come to know only some part of the conclusions of such discussions, which are published in the common language for everyone’s use. Or again, as if the same faithful had the ability on examining such documents to judge such matters for themselves without getting confused and avoiding all risk of error. It is a most reprehensible technique for the insinuation of doctrinal errors and one condemned long ago by our predecessor St. Celestine who found it used in the writings of Nestorius, bishop of Constantinople, and which he exposed in order to condemn it with the greatest possible severity. Once these texts were examined carefully, the impostor was exposed and confounded, for he expressed himself in a plethora of words, mixing true things with others that were obscure; mixing at times one with the other in such a way that he was also able to confess those things which were denied while at the same time possessing a basis for denying those very sentences which he confessed.
